Bachmann signs The Family Lead pledge

Not only that, but I believe the slavery comment was quickly removed from the pledge due to so many people reading things into it that were not intended? And Michelle Bachmann, I think last night, said that wasn't in the pledge she signed.

Of course we can't expect ThinkProgress to demonstrate integrity about any of that. They have their own agenda.

Bachmann claimed she signed up to the points but not to the preamble. She needs to do a better job of reading what she puts her name to

why would you think they weren't intended? or that anything was "read into" them?
you know, other than wishful thinking...

it was removed b/c bachmann and santorum were raked over the coals, and rightfully so, for the racists they are.

What racist thing has Bachmann done?

Well at least they pulled it

If it was Palin they would have rewritten history to make it true

I think you're wrong about that. I don't know about Santorum. But if Bachmann says that wasn't on the copy of the pledge she signed, I have no reason to disbelieve her. And I am not (yet) really a Bachmann fan as I haven't picked anybody to support yet. I wonder why some are so eager to believe they are racist? I can truthfully say I have never heard even close to a racist comment from either.

Yeah so I've been told. :)

You know I really pray Palin runs now. She will split the mamma grizzley vote with Bachmann and then a STRONG economic candidate like Cain, Romney or Perry will emerge from it. I fear Bachmann representing the GOP. I couldn't vote for her (or Obama for that matter). I don't think I could vote for the lesser of two evils on that one either!

How are any of those you mentioned " strong economic candidates"?

There's no common sense there Fox, they're delusional in their irrational hatred for the woman, and they've been directed to attack by their superiors, so they're on auto-pilot. Obviously they lack the ability to reason and think for themselves or they would see how ridiculously foolish and partisan they look by persisting in this.

Cain has proven to be a fiscally responsible leader.
Perry has done an outstanding job in Texas as it pertains to the economy
Romney......I dont pot him in the same class.

Have you no shame for tossing around accusations of racist just to express your distaste for someone?

Do you have such a low regard for the iussue of racism that it is ok to apply it for your own personal gain even though it compromises the integrtiy and the importance of true racism?

I am surprised at you Jillian. I did not realize you were that type of person.

Sure..lets go point by point.

1. Of course racism and bigotry still exist. Denying it is absurd. We see it almost on a daily basis from people who bring up illegal immigration, some really disgusting diatribes against people who practive the Muslim faith( Rep Peter King comes to mind), and even from people like Rand Paul..who argue that business owners should have a right to refuse service to people they don't like. And it exists in people who think the ought to be able to lord over what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own bedroom. Stop fighting it? We must remain vigilant against it rearing it ugly ahead again..which of late..it often does..

You threw so many straw men and non sequiturs into your response on this one that you would have lost a formal debate on this one in your very first sentence. Individual or personal prejudices about ANYTHING (Italians, women, Republicans, Michelle Bachmann, accordian players etc. etc. etc.) are constitutionally protected in this country and yes, it will remain a fact of life. And it has zero to do with anything in Point One.

We have broken down all laws and almost all barriers to full equality and opportunities for all groups in this country and the non racists are now focusing on encouraging all people to take advantage of that. One form of racist continues to keep people marginalized and victimized because it is politically and economically advantageous to do so.

There is definitely a move to stop marginalizing and victimizing certain groups as study after study has now shown well intentioned but poorly thought out programs to 'help' certain groups have had more negative than positive effect. I refer you to Thomas Sowell's Black Rednecks andWhite Liberals as an excellent starting point to fully undestand that.

More straw men and non sequiturs and not one shred of evidence for your point of view. While I see racists who would diminish somebody because of his/her race to be seriously wrong and sometimes hateful--there are more than one variety of these--and while I see white supremacy groups as usually disgusting, none of that is an endorsement of slavery. I have gone toe to toe with both racists and white supremacists--usually successfully I might add--but I have never known one of them who condoned slavery.

Your opinion which is again unsupported. Which is not to diminish how deplorable and damaging slavery was or racial discrimination has been. But there is no more slavery or Jim Crow laws and therefore nobody has responsibility for those.

Your comment is so vague and could be accused of so much prejudice and bigotry on your part that it speaks for itself.

and there ya go.

Go what? She starts spouting nonsense about non-sequiturs, strawmen and 'debating points' which was as..if not more dismissive then my "ridiculous' comment and what? I'm suppose to take that seriously? Then goes on to dismiss that white power groups "endorse" slavery? They did. They do. Not to long ago there was a book out about how slavery "helped" Africa. Rubbish.

Then she points me to a book. Gosh.

Dismissive and half assed attempts to address (which she really doesn't) some very salient points is really no way to get anything meaningful communicated. "Study after study" doesn't cut it.

So I found it funny.

I have the utmost respect for Jillian and for many other of our USMB friends who tilt left of center. And I can respect that they support their ideological beliefs as strongly as I support my own.

But I do think you're right that it sometimes goes on autopilot when people that I believe to be basically honest people of integrity say such outrageously hateful things about a person or organixzation when it is obvious they can't support those things with any shred of evidence. It's like it is something in the water they drink or something that makes it impossible to allow anybody in a position of power any thought or ideal that doesn't conform with their own. Not only can't they allow it, but they seem compelled to destroy such person as much as they legally can.

And I don't understand where that comes from at all.

They were so busy focusing on their "family values" and their "one man one woman" gay hating mantra that they didn't even realize it was such a dumb thing to say...

She may as well have said battered wives should stay with their abusive husbands because after all, at least the family unit is still intact! The American family was so much better off back in the old days, you betcha!
