Bachmann Invokes 'Charge Of The Light Brigade'

They did very much so, and in fact their charge helped to win it as it disrupted the Russian batteries and demoralized the defenders of Stabastopol.

The charge is now a staple in British lore of a few effecting the outcome of war through couragious scarifice.

Britain won the war.

I'm sure the Light Brigade appreciated that.

"Couragious Scarifice"? It was a fumbling mistake by the General Staff and garbled orders...and that cannot be abided, so make them martyr-like heros.

Wait a minute.. nobody doubts the strategic mistake.. but to question the valor of those charging into the battle?? C'MON... jeez

leave it to a winger

From the wiki link:

The charge of the Light Brigade continues to be studied by modern military historians and students as an example of what can go wrong when accurate military intelligence is lacking and orders are unclear. Sir Winston Churchill, who was a keen military historian and a former cavalryman, insisted on taking time out during the Yalta Conference in 1945 to see the battlefield for himself.

The brigade was not completely destroyed, but did suffer terribly, with 118 men killed, 127 wounded. After regrouping, only 195 men were still with horses. The futility of the action and its reckless bravery prompted the French Marshal Pierre Bosquet to state "C'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas la guerre." ("It is magnificent, but it is not war.") He continued, in a rarely quoted phrase: "C'est de la folie" — "it is madness."[8] The Russian commanders are said to have initially believed that the British soldiers must have been drunk.[7] Somerset Calthorpe, ADC to Lord Raglan, wrote a letter to a friend three days after the charge. He detailed casualty numbers, but he did not make distinction between those killed and those taken prisoner:

Wrong.

In fact the episode was not even known until the poem was published.

It became one of the cornerstones of the victorian era and one of the cherished events of British arms.

Britain has suffered far worse tactical episodes and they are long forgotten as nobody wrote an epic poem about them, the Charge of the Light brigade remains just what i said it was, not propaganda generated by the home office as you try to make it.

In fact the episode was not even known until the poem was published.
And the poem is now primarily known for the title and a single line
"Into the valley of death rode the six hundred"

It seems quite reasonable to infer that the speaker was referring to the common belief that the charge of the light brigade was a memorable victory because it was immortalized in poetry.

What's so funny about Bachmann is that if you were doing a sitcom making fun of conservatives that was going to have a Michelle Bachmann character in it, you wouldn't even have to exaggerate. She's her own caricature.

Right On Bachmann!! More Republicans need to grow a spine like this brave woman has. The Republicans have no way of stopping the inept Socialists as they just don't have the votes, but that doesn't mean you have to give up. They are vastly outnumbered so now is the time for extraordinary bravery. WTG Bachmann! Keep up the good work! :)

Charge for the guns' he said:
Into the valley of Death
  Rode the six hundred

Way to go Bachman! Lead your loyal troops into a massacre!
