Average teachers pay vs average pay.

The market says no. No young people are going into this for 40K just for the Millennial parents to tell them everything they're doing wrong for Ava and Jaxon.
Alabama is low ball teachers pay but in mid 40s to start. With benifits medical better than 50s.

Low for college degree but has lastingbgood benifits. Very good benifits.

Much better than many of us.

Can't answer or won't answer? I broke down the dollar amount, and that's just for CONTRACTED hours.

So you tell me what you consider a fair hourly rate for teachers.
I did answer you

I think teachers make a fair salary for the hours they work.
I don’t think they should expect the same pay as someone who works 50 more days a year

Plenty of professions start at $40k.

My first post-college job paid $10,600 in 1979. In today’s dollars, that’s $46,000. And of course I had to work the full year.

Yeah well, I'm a free market gal, and the markets say that's not a good starting wage anymore. No one is going into it, and people who did are getting out.

Argue with that, I guess.

America will hate the D team teachers, but it's no less than we deserve.

Bet you dollar to donuts they had to significantly raise teacher pay in the last five years

Average babysitting rates per hour in the US is $25/hour. That would be for what, four kids max?

At the salary you mentioned, beginning teachers get $30/hour. For AT LEAST 20 kids per class, that they must assess, grade, etc. Oh and yeah, teach to read, write, do math, whatever.

hahahahahahhahahahahahahahahhahahahahahhaha

Whatever. The numbers are still an annual salary.

On of my childhood friends earned more than $100,000 as a 10th grade teacher, and traveled to Europe for a month every summer.

No. The salary is based on contract length.

Our 11 month teachers make more for more days because their contract is longer.

WW

Hahaha. How many times have evaluations been held over our heads when we don't show up, free of charge, to the school carnival, concerts, etc?

We don't get "do it for the kids" pay, but man oh man, are we expected to do it for the kids.

Bluntly, as another poster here said, it used to be worth it, because parents and society appreciated you.

Now the pay is not great and no one appreciates us at all.

And now no one is going into it.

And sadly, very sadly, I tell people not to go into it.

If you think the A and B team of teachers was bad, wait til you get the D team. They are coming. Trust that
You ignored everything I said. You don’t think evaluations are held over the heads of private workers? And when we have to work through the weekends - at no extra pay?

How many times did you have to furiously put together a last-minute report while IN FLIGHT to the meeting across the country? No extra pay, of course.

And how many times did you work an entire day, catch a 7 pm flight home, get to your house at 11 pm, and be expected in the office at 9:00? No extra pay, of course.

Please stop crying that teachers have it so bad. You have a regular work schedule, summers off, and a good pension.

PS your liberal card just got canceled for these posts.

That make sense. If they work for 11 months, they should get paid for that. But that still ignores that they get a FULL month off in the summer, and a nice Christmas break and Spring break.

Well you can say that. But you're wrong.
How so? Construction doesnt get squat compared. Most dont even come close.

Both my sisters would say you are partially wrong and partially right. Both said in their later years that they cant disipline kids and many get threatened now. That would bebtheir reason to not want to do it again.

But both would say they had great benefits and pensions. One paid for my nephews palsy forever. Worth moutains of money

We didn't used to have it so bad. I would have said that with my whole throat 15 years ago. I thought my salary was fair.

It is bad now because children's behaviors are atrocious, Millennial parents are frankly unworkable for the most part, and society has zero respect for us.

There's a breaking point for everyone. You will put in the time gladly if the rewards are worth it. In teaching, the pay is no longer commensurate for what we do.

The market is showing you this.

Yes, as I just said. The horrid behaviors and parental madness have made it not worth doing anymore

No it doesn’t ignore it.

Teachers are normal paid on a 10 month contract.

That doesn’t matter. If a teacher gets paid $100,000 a year - like the experienced ones do here - it doesn’t matter what the contract is. The annual salary is $100,000.

And the rewards aren’t always compensation and benefits.

Rewards include loving your job, loving the kids, and respect of the community.

We have lost some of that.

So. Same as everyone else as our nation kills the dollar.

I wouldnt want to teach but i have to teach everyday. But not to kids but adults. We get green helpers all the time who we have to train the trades to. Hell ive been teaching most of my life.

Only exception is we dont get sassed by todays spouled kids, and if you dont do your job we will fire you.

When you make comments about having to show up for concerts without pay, you sound unprofessional.

Professional workers do not look at paid and unpaid hours. They are paid for the entire job, ANNUALLY, whether that means spending a few hours at a concert or working through the weekend because the VP has a last-minute project.

For a 200 day contract.

Or teachers start in the low 50K’s.

We have a handful that break 100k after 30-35 years.

Why always through out those at the top? Makes the number scarier doesn’t it.

Everyone, he is an HR director in a school district. So, knows what he's talking about.

I do not get paid enough to call home because a student physically assaulted me only to be told he was "dysregulated". And on and on.

And I know you're seeing this too. Our HR dept used to be wading through the hundreds of resumes they rec'd for every open teaching position. Now, the HR director must go out and grab teachers right after college.

The D team will suck for society. But we have certainly earned the D team.

I don't care anymore if it's professional or unprofessional. When you begin getting physically assaulted at your job--I have been hit, bitten, kicked, shoved and had things thrown at me--and asked what I did to provoke the child, THEN you can tell me about unprofessional.
