Average Gas Price Hits $4.30 A Gallon

The U.S. nationwide average gas price has climbed to $4.30 per gallon as of Thursday, according to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA), a four-year high, as American drivers feel the squeeze at the pump.

Gas prices rose 7¢ on Thursday, up from $4.23 on Wednesday, according to AAA data. The last time average U.S. gas prices topped $4.15 a gallon was in April 2022, shortly after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Gas prices have been rising since the U.S. and Israel's war in Iran began on February 28, when a gallon cost $2.98.

The Supreme Court won't be able to bail you out on that.
/---/ Gas is not that more expensive today compared to 1970.
To determine the inflation-adjusted cost of gasoline from 1970, we look at the average price at the pump during that year and apply the Consumer Price Index (CPI) multiplier to bring it to 2026 dollars.

The Calculation

  • 1970 Average Price: In 1970, the average price for a gallon of regular leaded gasoline in the United States was approximately $0.36.
  • Inflation Multiplier: Between 1970 and early 2026, the cumulative inflation rate has been roughly 700% to 750%, depending on the specific monthly CPI data. This means $1 in 1970 has the purchasing power of about $8.00 to $8.50 today.
  • The 1970 price of $0.36 per gallon is equivalent to approximately $2.85 – $3.05 per gallon in 2026 dollars.

today the US average gas price is ~$4.40 per gallon, not 2.85 to 3.05

A good thing about high gas prices is that trucks won't sell. Then they sit on lots and the price goes down
My f150 has just about 10 thousand miles and I want to trade it in.

It's also causing a spike in EV and home alternative energy source sales. There will be popular support for allowing the legal import of Chinese EV's into the US, which are superior to US auto industry and Tesla models.

/----/ You're convinced the price will never go down?

Chinese vehicles will have to prove they are superior. They will be much cheaper. And that may spur electric vehicle sales and will hurt the U.S. auto industry.

Just got a heating oil delivery.

$5.50 a gallon.

Thank you Trump.
/---/ Did you thank Bidum when it was $4.50?
The peak and low prices of heating oil in 2023 are as follows:
Peak Price: Approximately $4.50 per gallon.

Did you thank Trump last year when he brought it down??
In 2025, U.S. residential heating oil prices averaged around $3.44 per gallon, with seasonal fluctuations influenced by winter demand, crude oil prices, and inventory levels.

You know very well this is temporary.

As if the price of gas was our biggest or only problem. easy simple way to keep us from looking at other the bigger problems. HATE RULES.
