This is a great idea if the ammo is ballistically similar to the rounds that would be used in combat. Just the amount of rounds I have sent down range can't be good for the environment.

Change out the receiver in an M-16 and it fires .22LR all day long. Way cheaper than .223 rounds.

Pretty ironic that the fat asses in the Pentagon are worried about lead pollution when we practically destroyed pristine islands in the Pacific and rendered thousands of acres in New Mexico unlivable because of radiation not to mention otherwise valuable acreage on east coast islands which are so covered in unexploded conventional ordinance that they remain a danger to humans and wildlife after almost a hundred years.
