A new controversial armed citizen patrol has launched in Hartford.

Organizers say the people will be legally carrying as they walk around parts of the city where violence has taken a toll.

Though some – including the city’s mayor – are raising concerns about the effort.

In Hartford’s North End on Saturday, a group of people looked to patrol and clean up Garden Street.

“It was important to come out here because we believe that we have to keep the community safe, keep the community clean. And we're doing this by being out here for a few hours, clean up the community, pick up the trash,” said Marcus Long, of Hartford.

Garden Street has seen its share of gun violence including a double homicide in February, which is what prompted the push for civilian armed patrols.

“We are legally armed and we are patrolling,” said Cornell Lewis, the founder of the Self-Defense Brigade. “The people on Garden Street came to us and asked us for help.”

"..Though some including the city's mayor are raising concerns about the effort." The police chief all ready made a statement that he doesn't support them .

Typical response from the "leaders" when citizens step up and take care of business on their own because of total incompetence.

Hopefully this is only the beginning, good people can only be pushed so far.

BTW.....It looks like it's being organized though black churches.

For hundreds of years before the ratification of our Constitution, and to well past what the Supreme Court has said is the ratification era (1830, which is when the last signer of the Constitution died), there was no such thing as an organized police force in the United States.

Law enforcement, as it was understood and approved by the Framers, was the militia. The Constitution explicitly sates how Federal law was to be enforced: it is one of three constitutional uses of the militia. The first organized police forces in the western world, that is Europe, UK, and America, did not happen until in the 1840s. The citizens of New York City and of Boston, where those first forces were created, likened the entire thing to the standing army that the Framers despised so much.

The role of the Redcoats in the cities was law enforcement in exactly the way the police forces in the 1840s through today patrol and enforce the law. That is why the Framers hated the standing army so much. The other thing they hated the standing army for was the waste of lives and of the property and earnings of the people for fighting in foreign entanglements and wars. So now that the standing army policing our cities has a different color uniform from that part of the standing army that is wasting lives and gold in those foreign entanglements and wars does not make the standing army in blue any less a standing army than that part of the standing army that wears green or desert tan.

The people of New York and of Boston were exactly correct. And it is certain that the Framers would have objected terribly, even the Federalists hated the idea of such a standing army. There was nothing in the Constitution to prevent such a standing army in the cities, and the Framers were pretty liberal about giving the Federal Government the power to create a standing army but had they any idea at all that something like the standing army in blue would come about, I am certain that the anti-Federalists would have won the debate to forbid a standing army at all. The Founders could never even have envisioned such a thing as the modern police force, even in the way it existed in the 1840s.

True constitutional conservatives will object to the standing army in our cities and will vote to defund them. Not to leave a vacuum such as what BLM and the like propose but to defund the standing army and replace it with the town watch of hundreds of years from the Founding and before. By the way, the town watch was required to be vigilant - from which we get the term vigilante or vigilantism - words you've been trained to hate but were the way of life for hundreds of years and are exactly what we need to go back to.

And when a crime is observed by the vigilant, the town watch was required to raise the hue and cry. And when the hue and cry was raised, all men within hearing were required to come running with their musket.

By the way, a little sidebar. The musket that they had was not because it was "in common use". They had the musket, making it common, precisely because they were required by law specifically to own a musket and that because it was the firearm of the army. The Court in Miller, in Heller, and beyond are wrong to suggest that only common use arms are protected because the militia in 1791 used muskets. The militia used the arms the army used and that is what Miller and Heller should have found - that the arms of the army are protected by the 2nd Amendment.

Failure of the watch of the watch to raise the hue and cry, or failure of the men to respond, were punishable by fines. When the militia found those suspected of the crimes, they held them and delivered them to the Sheriff to hold in the gaol for trial.

How many of you who support the 2nd Amendment point out in defense of your guns that when seconds count, the police are only minutes, perhaps hours, away. How many of you say that the police get there in time to do the paperwork? So who is there in seconds when seconds count? Your neighbors, either in your job or your home. And why not have the Liuetenant or Captain of the Militia company sign your reports for your insurance.

So tell me just what are the police doing for you that the militia can't do better?

They are dumb…..if I knew them I would tell them to stay home…..democrats are actively destroying the police, if there is a shooting by these guys they will be destroyed………there is no upside….

The Marine on the subway in New York didn’t get a pass for stopping the deranged homeless guy..these guys won’t either…
