They can ignore the law the same way election officials ignored election laws. Seems fair.The state legislatures have already determined that the electors are bound to the states popular vote.Except the SCOTUS can't rule against the constitution and it states that state legislatures CAN determine the electors for an election.
They can't change the law after they lose an election. They could change it before the election.
