Are trump's policies threatening the loss of a large constituency?

'The whole thing is screwed up': Farmers in deep-red Pennsylvania struggle to find workers

TIOGA COUNTY, Pa. — As House Agriculture Chair G.T. Thompson prepares to introduce legislation aimed at easing the farm labor crisis, farmers in the Pennsylvania Republican’s district are hoping he’s heard their cries that they need more help right now.

In Tioga County, where President Donald Trump won 75 percent of the vote in 2024, farmers are losing patience with the White House’s promise of a quick solution for farm workers. Their urgent need is highlighted by stories like those of a multigenerational dairy farm that sold off all its dairy cows because the owner could not find workers and another where a farmer’s job listings have received no responses.

China’s Snub of U.S. Soybeans Is a Crisis for American Farmers

On a windy September morning, Josh and Jordan Gackle huddled to discuss the looming crisis facing their North Dakota soybean farm.

For the first time in the history of their 76-year-old operation, their biggest customer — China — had stopped buying soybeans. Their 2,300-acre soybean farm is projected to lose $400,000 in 2025. Soybeans that would normally be harvested and exported to Asia are now set to pile up in large steel bins.

Since President Trump imposed tariffs on Chinese goods in February, Beijing has retaliated by halting all purchases of American soybeans.

That decision has had devastating repercussions for farmers in North Dakota, which exported more than 70 percent of its soybeans to China before Trump unveiled the new tariffs this year. Unless China agrees to restart its purchases as part of a trade deal, farmers that depend on the Chinese market will be facing steep losses that could fuel farm bankruptcies and farm foreclosures around the United States.

As we all recall farmers required billions in bailouts during trump 1.0 because of tariffs. Now they are being hurt by a double whammy of tariffs and the immigration policy. But hey, I'm sure the farmers won't mind since Adam Schiff is being investigated for mortgage fAs one farmer put, "Priviledged

Tioga County is beyond Red. As one farmer put it, "Privileged Whites" do not to the stoop labor. One diary farmer sold all of stock, he could NOT find people to milk them. Milking cows is not a fun job. Whites want the milk, do not to milk the cow to get it.

Trump is a bit of a manic to me. Now I can see the big picture meta wisdom in some of the things he wants to do, but these are things that need to be done incrementally to not screw things up. Trump, however, seems hellbent on screwing things up.

Everything threatens the loss of constituency.
Doesn't matter what it is.

Democrats have lost 2.1 million voters who are now GOP. Theur states have lost millions of population. That trend is ongoing
It's the 21st Century, No one is buy the farmworker BS anymore.

Because only white people deserve a living wage...
That's funny, you ain't white, and you claim to be doing well for yourself.

Looks like you're lying again.

Farmers, a key GOP constituency, hit hard by shutdown.

The closure of thousands of farm loan offices have top Republicans like Senate Majority Leader John Thune acknowledging the pain hitting their own constituents.

As if farmers weren't already facing hard times due to the orange piece of shit's tariffs idiotic.
Yep, the Schumer shutdown is hitting farmers hard. Another reminder of how the dems hate farmers, and brings back memories of the Obama/Xiden years where there were record farming bankrupties back in 2011

My response to the farmers… that’s why you should have been pumping out a dozen kids the instant you got married. That’s how it was done in the past.

This is what happens when you don't think before you vote. 47 hit their wallets, just like he said he would, some of them didn't think he would....surprise!

The stupidity of voting for Trump; the stupidity of voting against one's own interests.

Just give up already, almost no one regrets not voting for Kamala Harris. Is Trump perfect? Not by a country mile, but he is so much better than Biden was and is a million times better than Kamala would have been.

Farmers the California are hurting because of 47. The Central Valley is deeply red. Several, according the Fresno Bee are going belly up. On top of 47's tariffs, they cannot find workers to harvest their crops. As one farmer put it, "White People don't want to the hard of picking crops." One Republican floated the idea of getting prison labor to do the work, but forced servitude is against the law.

That may be the dumbest thing I've seen a trumple write in weeks.
And probably the truest thing you've ever read here.

There isn't a single decision, position or action done politically that doesn't piss off some segment of the population. That's why it's called politics. The Latin root indicating antithetical positions on each side of the spectrum.

All they needed to do was pay attention to what he did to farmers during trump 1.0. Hundreds of farmers would have gone bankrupt if not for billions in subsidies when they couldn't sell their products to China thanks to the orange piece of shit.

And they all did much better with the subsidy than they ever would have done on the retail market.
I noticed you continue to neglect to include that point. Agricultural retail sales are subject to heavy international competition.... Subsidies on the other hand are not.

Many of those first time arounders have already retooled and and repurposed their lands to support profitable crops needed in other places.

Thune needs to change the senate rule to allow simple majorities to pass appropriations bills.

Tariffs gain $400b a year, that is financial genius. If the farmers need $10b to make them whole, no problem.

AI Overview

Reports and industry analysis from 2025 indicate that many U.S. soybean farmers have permanently lost a significant portion of their market share in China due to tariffs imposed during the Trump administration's trade disputes. While China remains an important customer, the market share lost has largely shifted to South American competitors and may never be fully recovered.
