Whenever I mention american workers getting raises it always is replied with "that's inflationary".

Inflation is a measure of how much the government spends compared to what it takes in. The only time wages/raises become "inflationary" is when stupid people in government decide they are going to "fix" inflation (placate voters) by setting a minimum wage of $30.00/hour for a mundane job which used to only pay $8.50.

When they do that, no employer can absorb that and must pass the increase on in higher costs and prices for product and services.

All of my income is from investments, to which I pay no attention whatsoever. I have a Broker who has increased the value of our portfolio every year despite our living off them (plus Social Security). In fact, we don't even pay attention to how our investments are doing...only the bottom line. They send us a fixed amount every month regardless of how our investments are doing.

My tax person called us in January with good news and bad news. The good news was that we made "too much" with our investments last year, and the bad news is that we will have to come up with about thirteen thousand dollars next week, on the 15th, to cover Fed and State income taxes.

I can't believe that I just don't give a shit. It's all "monopoly" money to me.

I suppose we will lose money in 2026. Again, I don't really give a shit.

To confirm, are you saying that you don't have a job? And that your income is now just based of investments that gain interest and that funds you?

I'd say stuff like that on a new job as a joke. Then claim I stayed in a holiday express so I knew I was gold.

The boss would then ask if anyone knew me. Sure enough someone always ratted me out and the boss would hand me blue prints and point me to a section telling me to "make it look like the picture".
