April 15 is coming...

I got my taxes back today.

Sadly between the Feds and Virginia they got to use 4K of my money interest free.

I've always maintained that it's better to pay a little in than to get much of a refund.

Huh, I haven't heard much from Stossel of late. I always enjoyed his spots when he was on FOX.

A bit over 6 minutes well spent....Thanks OP.

Oh, he was ill.

Already got my $600 back from the state and federal. I would have gotten more, but the economy was doing so well I took on a real job late in 2024.

Having a job is good: It keeps me sharp and active and I spend less time on here.

Why would anyone want to "takeover" a failed business... you have never run a business have you?...
i've run a few, including one that I took over that was failing. I suspect, however, you never have given that you have a worldview that excludes thinking outside the box, or egads, taking a risk.

So are you ready and will you file on time... My tax burden went down this year... but some folks in America want to take more of my money... are you in favor of taxing the rich more?... better take a look at this...

You don’t make shit. No one wants broke people’s wages. Keep dreaming.

Other than being semi retired... I own an 8 unit Apartment building and work/volunteer as coach for the golf team at our local high school...
I own my home here in AZ and a vacation home on the central coast of CA... That I also rent as a vacation rental....
Would you like to book a week?...

Well unless you are wealthy. They don't pay taxes.

No one in my neighborhood worries about taxes. We're the ones who pay the taxes. The whiners are the one's just getting by who think if my taxes get raised someone will come for their pile of dirt. You guys are funny.

Are you kidding me?
The tax code is longer and more complicated than the Catholic Holy Bible with the Apocrypha....

And if you can afford the tax accountants....you don't worry about taxes. You get ALL the deductions.

Including this one.

Our total taxes balanced out.

My wife and I were both salaried so the tips/overtime deductions didn't impact.

There was the additional senior tax deduction, but the saving there was pretty much offset by increased import taxes.

Not complaining, but it was pretty much a wash.

Why are you paying import taxes?

Why are you paying import taxes?

Some people call them tariffs.

And everyone pays tariffs, either directly or indictly.

For example pot ash is imported as part of fertilizer production. Pot Ash now has a tariff on it. Pos Ash is used to create fertilizer, fertilizer is bought by US farmers to help grow crops, they pass increased fertilizer cost into the supply chain, I buy more expensive food. I pay the tariffs as a consumer.

That's just one example.

Now you can have your normal reaction with an insult.

The worst day of retirement is 10000x more gratifying than the best day ever at work. Always remember that.

Using the crops as in the previous example.

I don't pay for increased food prices do to increased costs of production?

Or are you in the camp that Canadians pay the tariff on pot ash imports and the costs for US farmers buying fertilizer that used Canadian pot ash for production remained flat and that the increased on food prices are a figment of my imagination?

From the SCOTUS - LEARNING RESOURCES, INC. v. DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES:

The power to impose tariffs is “very clear[ly] . . . a branch of the taxing power.” Gibbons v. Ogden, 9 Wheat. 1, 201 (1824). “A tariff,” after all, “is a tax levied on imported goods and services.” Congressional Research Service (CRS), C. Casey, U. S. Tariff Policy: Overview 1 (2025). And tariffs “raise[] revenue,” West Lynn Creamery, Inc. v. Healy, 512 U. S. 186, 193 (1994)—the defining feature of a tax, United States v. Kahriger, 345 U. S. 22, 28, and n. 4 (1953); Sonzinsky v. United States, 300 U. S. 506, 514 (1937). Indeed, the Framers expected that the Government would for “a long time depend . . . chiefly on” tariffs for revenue. The Federalist No. 12, at 93 (A. Hamilton). Little wonder, then, that the First Congress’s first exercise of its taxing power (and its second enacted law, right after the one providing for the new officials to take an oath) was a tariff law. See Act of July 4, 1789, ch. 2, 1 Stat. 24.

Recognizing the taxing power’s unique importance, and having just fought a revolution motivated in large part by “taxation without representation,” the Framers gave Congress “alone . . . access to the pockets of the people.”

I just filed....
Had to pay $4k....

I feel good about paying that money too....like I got value for that money.

I helped Somali immigrants steal money.
I helped Gavin waste more money.
I helped some Lil fudgepacker in Jakarta feel better about his choices.
I helped Boasburg go way beyond his jurisdiction...
I helped more congressman sit on their buts to insider trade stock.
I helped other immigrants get money for daycares that doesn't exist.

How we gave electric carmakers all kinds of money to build factories for cars they don't make and wouldn't sell if they did.

Yeah.....
I feel so good about writing that check.
Filed in Feb. Got almost $6K back.

Here's a crazy idea:

Instead of taxing the rich to redistribute to the unwashed masses until they are poor too, no longer successful and creating jobs or feeding the economy, until you run out of their money, has anyone ever considered just going out and working hard, creating their own business, and getting rich for themselves?

Maybe instead, they should be looking to get rich too instead of trying to make the successful poor like them.

It's not like the economy is a pie with only so much pie to go around.

Funny how republicans see getting rich as a GOAL for everyone
While progressives view being rich as just victimizing others.

Republicans want a world of prosperity.
Leftists want a world of poverty.

Oh wait, except for their elite like Nancy.

Meeting with my accountant on Monday.

Called ahead just to get a guesstimat on how much of a check I need to write... good news, only a couple thousand 👍

I pay in quarterly and try to get it so my amount due when I file is zero, so to only miss by a $2,000 is pretty good.
