I got a camp fire story from when I was a kid growing up 60s and 70s. Later, I discovered it was made into a movie.

The Johnsons called their usual babysitter, Barbara, who was a junior in high school with excellent grades. She was available to babysit their baby girl on short notice. On Friday evening, Barbara went over to the Johnsons' house before 7 pm and they gave her instructions and said they would be back before 11 pm. There was food, snacks, and drinks she could help herself to in the fridge and cabinet. This was in the 70s, so she could watch movies on the VHS player. Barbara checked on the baby upstairs and she seemed fine. She took Carol out of her crib and played with her a bit with her rattle, wooden blocks, and music toys. Afterward, she put baby Carol back in her crib, played the baby mobile, and read her a small bedtime story until she fell asleep. She turned off the lights and then went downstairs to watch a movie. She went into the kitchen and found some Jiffy Pop popcorn and put it on the stove on medium heat. She looked in the fridge and found some orange juice so poured herself a giant glass. She heard the popcorn start popping, so she shook it on the stove back and forth until its foil had blown into an aluminum foil ball. Then she went back to the living room with her goodies and decided to watch Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. She could use a good scare when Halloween was around the corner.

Then the phone rang and she went to answer it. There didn't appear to be anyone on the phone, but they hung up. She thought it was a wrong number, so went back to turning the tv on and putting the video tape into the player. She set it so the tv would play the tape. She opened the popcorn carefully so as to not get scalded by the steam. Just when Barbara's favorite part about Marion returning to the office with a headache and having money waved in her face, the phone rang again. She paused the VHS player to answer the phone. There seemed to be no one on the other end again, but she heard breathing. She asked is someone there? The male voice replied, "It's going to be raining blood tonight," and then hung up.

Barbara got the creeps, but went back to her movie. She laughed when the rich cowboy from Arizona talked about his baby girl and waved a thick stack of new money in front of Marion's face. The real estate manager didn't like that much cash in the office, so he told Marion to take it to the bank and deposit it for safekeeping. Barbara thought about what she could do with all that money. Then the phone rang again and it was the same man's voice and he said, "It's going to be raining blood tonight. Have you checked on the baby?" and then hung up. This time Barbara was frightened, so she called the police and spoke with the desk sergeant who answered. She calmly explained the calls and told him that she was calling because the man somehow knew that she was babysitting. The sergeant told her that if the caller calls again to keep him on the line and that they would try to trace the call. He would set it up with the phone company. Also, he mentioned there is a detective in the area who can be over if something happens. He said he was there because of some incidents in the neighborhood.

Barbara felt reassured and went back to her movie. She was scared by the shower scene and was about to turn the movie off when the phone rang once more. She answered quickly and the same male voice said, "It's going to be raining blood tonight, have you checked on the baby?" This time Barbara asked who is this and why it would be raining blood? The caller replied have you checked the baby? Barbara asked what baby? And the caller replied, "It's going to be raining blood tonight. Have you checked on the baby?" Barbara asked again who is this, but the caller hung up. A few minutes later, the phone rang again and Barbara was very frightened. The last call made her really scared. She mustered up the courage to answer the phone and it was the police sergeant. He said that he had to phone company trace the call and that it was coming from inside the house. He told her to get out of the house immediately and the detective was on the way. After that someone told the story about Mrs. Murphy's ghost.

Thanks. I've seen it. ll have to watch it again when I get a chance. I just wanted to point out it was a campfire story from earlier on. There were some good camp fire story tellers. The other story about Mrs. Murphy is a ghost story that has some sound effects and it helps if you can do those well.

I grew up in San Francisco and the next door lady was an old woman. She had her Victorian house set back from the street. It was a dark olive green with some tan trim. We lived on a steep hill and her house was on raised ground like the Psycho house, but not as many stairs. She seemed okay and rarely talked with us kids. She invited us inside her house once and it was like the Psycho house with stairs in front and the kitchen on the left in the back. It seemed well kept but it was somewhat dark inside. She hand window blinds and veiled curtains. Looking back, I don't think you can really light those homes well unless you put in modern lighting. Later, she may have gotten frail and let her front yard go awry. I hardly every saw her outside after that and she was often by the house windows in front. I guess you get the picture. Old dark Victorian house on a hill and a woman's shadow by the window.

Actually, the Psycho house that inspired Edward Hopper's painting doesn't look scary. It's in Haverstraw, NY. Here's a more modern photo with another painter doing it. It's just that Hopper had a style to make it seem isolated.

They'll be playing the movie again at an art house cinema on Halloween. I plan to go as I have never seen it in theaters. Mwahahahaha.

It's a haunted house run by a conservative in which no one has completed. If you do, then you get $20,000.

Is this a legit haunted house and offer or is it a valid complaint? It could be from a lib.

"Frankie Towery, who started the Change.org page, alleges that the attraction often includes waterboarding and visitors being forced to eat things, adding that attendees have even reportedly been injected with drugs in order to cause hallucinations.

"It's literally just a kidnapping and torture house," the petition's description also says. "Some people have had to seek professional psychiatric help and medical care for extensive injuries. I propose that all locations where this is happening be shut down immediately."

McKamey has defended his haunted house from those claims, saying the attraction is nothing more than a wild — but legal — experience.

"I’m a very straight-laced conservative guy," KcKamey told WFLA-TV. "But here I run this crazy haunted house that people think is this torture factory, fetish factory. All of these things that it’s not, but people believe that based upon the films that I have made."

The owner, who claims he's never had alcohol, drugs or a cigarette in his entire life, said he films everything happening inside the house. That way, he can go back and show attendees exactly what they believe happened to them.

"You’d be surprised over the years how many people have claimed something happened to them inside," McKamey told WFLA. "And I need to go back and show whoever needs to see it the raw and unedited footage, saying ‘here ya go, here’s the complete show.'"

In addition to the 40-page waiver, McKamey also requires his visitors to show proof that they are in "excellent health," both mentally and physically. That also includes attendees showing proof of medical insurance and even passing a drug test."

Yeah. They don’t make them like the old classics. It is nice to see some directors going back to less special effects and using music, darkness and the jump scares.

That’s not a haunted house. They actually torture you there. You have to sign a 30 page waiver to make it legal. It’s nuts. They break bones and just torture you till you break. It’s crazy how it is legal.
