Way to go Scott...
Anti-BDS Bill Fought By Hamas Associates and Group Justifying Knife Attacks in Israel
Bill on desk and ready to be signed into law by Florida Governor Rick Scott.

On March 3, 2016, a bill was sent by the Florida Senate to the office of Florida Governor Rick Scott that, if signed into law, would prevent government agencies from giving public funds to companies based in Florida that are engaged in a boycott of Israel. The legitimacy of the bill can be shown merely by exposing the groups who are protesting its passage, groups that are linked to terrorist organizations and support for violence against Jews and others.

The bill, SB 86, takes action against the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, by requiring the State Board of Administration to 1. “identify all companies” actively boycotting Israel, through a Scrutinized Companies that Boycott Israel List, and 2. “prohibit a state agency or local governmental entity from contracting for goods and services that exceed a specified amount” from any company that has been placed on the list.

SB 86 was voted on and passed unanimously, 38 to 0.

Those protesting the bill, along with its Florida House companion HB 527, claim that it is a suppression of the First Amendment rights of those who choose to boycott the Jewish state. However, a look into the groups who are leading the protest reveals a completely different agenda, one that involves terrorism and bigotry.

A website titled STOP JOE’S BILL – Joe meaning Florida State Senate President Joe Negron, the main sponsor of the bill – was set up to protest the bill’s passage and to demean both Negron and his wife, Rebecca. One of the groups behind the production of the site is CAIR-Florida.

CAIR or the Council on American-Islamic Relations was created in June 1994 as part of a terrorist umbrella organization led by then-global head of Hamas, Mousa Abu Marzook. In 2007 and 2008, CAIR was named a co-conspirator by the US Justice Department for two federal trials dealing with the funding of millions of dollars to Hamas. After the September 11 attacks, CAIR had used its official website to raise funds for then-US financing arm of Hamas and the indicted organization for the 2007 and 2008 trials, the Holy Land Foundation (HLF).

CAIR-Florida reflects the same pro-Hamas extremism as its parent group. In August 2014, CAIR-Florida Executive Director Hassan Shibly wrote, “Israel and its supporters are enemies of God...” In July 2014, CAIR-Florida co-sponsored a pro-Hamas rally in Miami, where rally goers shouted, “We are Hamas” and “Let’s go Hamas.” Following the rally, the event organizer, Sofian Zakkout, wrote, “Thank God, every day we conquer the American Jews like our conquests over the Jews of Israel!”

Another group associated with the STOP JOE site and fighting the bill is the Florida State University (FSU) chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP).

OK, but BDS will still be able to boycott those companies.

And the way things are going they will have to do it in secret and in Palestine. Try to do it in the US and they face arrest and possibly removal from the country

Yeah? You mean where companies are penalised if they decide not to purchase some goods? You're right, doesn't seem much like a free market at all.

Seems like something the rightards on here would expect commies to do.

Israel: A Geopolitical Tourist Destination
Defying the Jewish State's enemies through the simple act of traveling.

For a hard-core segment of travelers to Jerusalem, when the sun sets at the Sabbath, the magic in the air is not just the serene image of a peaceful dusk in an enchanted land. It is the empowering knowledge that the sun still shines on a Jewish State surrounded by fiery military and diplomatic turmoil. Israel remains a nation determined to survive and preserve its sense of magnetic amazement. In the minds of many, a visit to Israel is more than just a vacation. It is a geopolitical destination. Traveling to and enjoying Israel makes a statement to the world and to history. It reflects the steeled determination to be happy and fulfilled in one of the most treasured places on earth, despite a virtual siege around every corner.

When in Israel, especially in Jerusalem, everything about your tourism choices is political—which hotel you select, which taxi driver you hire, which bagel you buy, which restaurant you dine at, what fascination you experience, what memories you return home with. Are you buying a half pound of za’atar in Jerusalem’s teeming Jewish market at Machena Yehuda or at the stone-ensconced spice kiosks that line the time-polished lanes of the Old City? Or do you try both?

Anti-Israel sentiment abounds at the café tables of the Ottoman-era American Colony Hotel in East Jerusalem, while fierce loyalty to the Jewish State is detected in every corner of the modern David Citadel Hotel. Visitors book their rooms accordingly and create their own comfort zones in the respective lobbies.

Like everything else in the Jewish State, Israel’s tourism industry—that is, its hotels, restaurants, amusements, and visitor services—has achieved a modern miracle. Despite wars and pressures, the nation has honed its travel experience to rival the best in the world. Elegant, constantly upgrading, hotels combine with a robust service and physical infrastructure attractive to any visitor. Exciting restaurants, where both ethnic and modern cuisines operate at the culinary apex, cater to all tastes and budgets. Breathtaking vistas in close proximity offer magnificent desert mountains, frothing Mediterranean shores and beckoning hills. Everywhere, one feels the irresistible lure of ancient history and religious authenticity.

...

It is easy to make a geopolitical statement. But nothing is more enduring than to make that statement in person by traveling to Israel and vowing at Ben Gurion airport that you will soon return.

They can't make BDS illegal. If they could they would. But they can't so they, in desperation, use the back door approach.

Companies can still be boycotted. This law just puts them in a difficult place.

True but what good will it do them when they lose so much government support and business. How will they manage to survive when the orders placed are cancelled and given to their rivals, or if they are on a black list produced by the government.

Nothing finer than a free market.

Did you read the bill, it will no longer be a free market but a closed one to certain companies that rely on government accounts to keep going. How will they keep trading when 50% of their customer base is suddenly withdrawn, then their other customers ask why and start to withhold business.

OK, but that is a problem created by the government. It has nothing to do with the BDS movement.

BDS has already been made illegal in Palestine because of the damage it has done to the economy. Some European nations have now made it illegal under terrorism laws, while some US states are looking at making it illegal for the same reasons.

It has everything to do with the BDS movement as it has been infiltrated by neo Marxists and Nazis who are using it as a front to attack the Jews. Once that happened it no longer became anything but a racist terrorist group.

OK, but will enforcing laws under false premise hold up in court?

There is no evidence of that.
