The song is awesome, it touches me- heavily- so, I'm posting the lyrics, which while looking at them brought something to mind- I made bold the words that made me think of what I'm going to get at-

This Land Is Your Land
Words and Music by Woody Guthrie

This land is your land This land is my land
From California to the New York island;
From the red wood forest to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and Me.

As I was walking that ribbon of highway,
I saw above me that endless skyway:
I saw below me that golden valley:
This land was made for you and me.

I’ve roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts;
And all around me a voice was sounding:
This land was made for you and me.

When the sun came shining, and I was strolling,
And the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling,
As the fog was lifting a voice was chanting:
This land was made for you and me.

As I went walking I saw a sign there
And on the sign it said “No Trespassing.”
But on the other side it didn’t say nothing,
That side was made for you and me.

In the shadow of the steeple I saw my people,
By the relief office I seen my people;
As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking

Is this land made for you and me?

Nobody living can ever stop me,
As I go walking that freedom highway;
Nobody living can ever make me turn back
This land was made for you and me.

Now, think about the words to that song- what I made bold- by the relief office, I see my people, as they stood there hungry -

Now, I'm asking- and pointing out what I see, about where we are now- the relief office- checks in the mail, direct deposit, etc., from Uncle Sham- I believe they/it (godvernment) knows what it's doing, which is not it's constitutional job (and please don't go off on the constitution in this thread- if you have an opinion on that use that forum, please) - but, anyway, they know they've fucked up royally so they're giving us crumbs (checks) to placate the ignorant stinky tourists- thank you harry reid (no, I don't have enough respect for him to capitalize his name, he is a lower case person)- we the people- but, what they give us is borrowed, so what do they really give us? The obvious answer is more debt- but, that aside- why? Do they feel bad about one thing and not another?

THINK! Folks- don't rely on presstitutes and alleged experts- form your own conclusions- you are capable in spite of what you're told to believe in fact, you could think for yourself to spite the arrogant talking heads and authoritarians who feel entitled to rule over you and your thoughts- in the Land made for you and me.

America began by giving away America's national resources and wealth to citizens and immigrants alike and has continued the policy till this very day.

This quote by Bob Dylan illustrates why you don't let your citizens get too hungry, they will eat the rich. Social programs alleviating suffering is merely a side effect of the primary wish to maintain social order in the face of widespread poverty without having to have a totalitarian police state.

It is an awesome song.

The Radicalism of Woody Guthrie - Jacobin

The Lyric was written in 1940 when America was still reeling from the Dust Bowl and the Depression.

Woody Guthrie and Socialism in Oklahoma – There It Is . org
Woody Guthrie and Socialism in Oklahoma. What the right-wing says is that Guthrie, who was born in Okemah, was a radical because he once wrote a column for The Daily Worker, a communist newspaper. What they fail to mention is Guthrie wrote for this paper in a historical period in which thousands upon thousands of farmers and workers in the United States considered themselves socialist. Yes, even in Oklahoma, there were countless … socialists from the state’s founding to World War II. At one point in our state history, a socialist candidate for governor received more than ten percent of the vote.

That makes the words no less true, or mine, for that matter- and I did acknowledge that in the thread I posted as a link- so, now what?

Did you ever watch the movie about him starring David Carradine?
Do you read about other people? At all? I usually like your comments, btw- but, do your due dilligence to keep from looking like just another empty poster. You don't do yourself justice when you do.

We tend to forget how popular Socialism was in the late 30's while people struggled during the Great Depression. Guthrie was a socialist and probably a communist who even wrote a column promoting socialism. His kid was (is) a goofy draft dodger.

A lot of us know what the glue is that holds this country together.

And when they are gone, this country will fly apart.
