I was on Facebook earlier when a definite socialist/democrat person was complaining about how in their words: "Now if Walmart would pay these great employees the living wages that they deserve, it would be perfect."

Once into the fray comes the FACTS and it is so sad what with the ease of the internet to get information that people push the enter button without considering the FACTS.

A living wage in Iowa is $10.53. (where this person lives...)

A living wage in NY City is $16.14.
That makes sense right?
But people like the above mentioned person don't seem to comprehend that the concept of "minimum" wage is totally dependent on what state you live in!

The Living wage in GA (where this event occurred that sparked the comment) is $11.93.

Remember the comment that triggered this OP....

Now if Walmart would pay these great employees the living wages that they deserve, it would be perfect."

The new full-time average hourly wage in Georgia is now $13.17 for Walmart workers.

Almost 10% higher than the living wage! Walmart IS paying higher than minimum wage but as this socialist/democrat person is wont to do they believe the biased MSM and perpetuate the myths.

So this is a repeating problem with people still hung up in the past with believing EVERYTHING the MSM puts out.

It is just amazing with the tools people have that they don't question statements like these.

That Walmart number is the average of their full time employees in GA, according to the article. At the time of the writing some employees made as little as $9 an hour. The minimum was supposed to be raised to $10 by 2016.

Of course, this article was from 2015, so it doesn't tell us what the numbers might be at now. They could be above that living wage calculator.

You are certainly correct that what constitutes a living wage will change depending on one's location. Because of that, the federal minimum wage will always be better as more of an absolute minimum rather than anything that makes sense everywhere. State, or even county/city minimum wages, make much more sense. The national $15 an hour movement has always seemed like too simplistic an approach to me.

I agree regarding it should be state/local issue NOT Federal.
Kentucky Living wage: $43,308
Hawaii $60,700
Here's how much you have to earn to live comfortably in every US state
