We live a country where if you want to bomb someone, there is little or no discussion as to the cost. Firing a $78,000 missile from a 28 million dollar drone at a cost of $3,624.00 per hour to kill people in the middle east who live on less than $1.00 a day is little more than business as usual in America.

However - -

When deciding how much (if anything) to spend on assisting their fellow Americans with malnutrition, homelessness and basic medical care, we sharpen our pencils, break out the calculators bemoan the price, and wring our hands at the thought of asking for an extra penny in tax revenue from billionaires who profit so handsomely from the country that enriches and protects them.

Nice cherry picking. You failed to note the more than $55B in foreign aid and UN and WHO funding that the US taxpayer DONATED last year.

Terrorists in the middle east are living on less than a dollar a day?

How do they afford all those explosives, then, numbskull?

Interesting thought, but people always view events by what's it mean to them. In a nutshell, its the economy stupid.

Perhaps if you spent money in a useful way and put people in charge of their destiny (teaching them skills to survive and work) then the burden to support them becomes more effective and and cheaper.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime--- and he can sell part of his catch for beer money--and his wife will never see him again. LOL.

Look to the origins of the greatest Country on earth. The Constitutional Congress listed the duties of the Federal government in two sentences. "To provide for the common defense". "To promote the general welfare". Somehow through the years sissie anti-war activists twisted the the duties into "provide for the general welfare and promote the common defense". Nobody dies from malnutrition in the greatest Country in the world unless it is self inflicted or they are committing a felony. Americans live in the highest living standard in the world but hypocrite lefties only see the alcoholics and drug addicts who refuse treatment.

A real whopper of a false dichotomy.
