Of course you have a $7500 subsidy so it's only 22,500 and then you only spend $4 on electricity instead of $80 on gasoline. Most do not know that a 12 year old Toyota Yaris was the base model for the hybrid Prius.
At that time a new gas model Yaris could be had for 12k. I know, I bought a 5 speed one to tow behind my motor home.
The hybrid Prius was almost 27k new the same year!

Did you think a gas engine replacement is cheap?

No...but it's rarely needed. My 14 year old car had the original engine, 170,000 miles. The original engine in my wife's Blazer went 260,000+ miles.
