Alec Baldwin Indicted

After over a hundred years of using guns on movie sets, can you show a standard practice of actors being responsible for checking out guns every time they pick one up for a scene?

Yes, before production begins on any film or TV set involving firearms there is a MANDATORY safety briefing for cast and crew.

Additionally, every DAY, before the days filming begins there is ANOTHER safety brifing.

Standard policy for at least 40 years.

And guess what....Rule 1 is you don't point the gun at people.

This time the charge seems reasonable. Unintentional manslaughter is when you recklessly cause the death of someone. Baldwin's defense seemed to rely on the ludicrous claim that the revolver went off by itself while he was holding it. He might get to plea to a lesser charge or if he goes to trial money and influence will play a part and he won't see a day behind bars. Civil suits might bankrupt him though.

I was in the army for 11 years, and my primary MOS was Supply Sergeant/Armorer.

Yes, he should have never been handed a loaded weapon. But he had no reason to think it was loaded, and quite the contrary, actors have to rely on the support staff (also known as the 500 names you see on a screen before the teaser for the next movie) to make sure the equipment is safe.

Then you should know that the person pulling the trigger is responsible for checking the gun. If you weren't in a cult, this would be an easy one for you, assuming you're not lying about your military experience (which you probably are).

You mean a prop gun that wasn't supposed to fire real bullets?

No. Everyone on set knew the guns were real.

Unlikely. If a jury couldn't find John Landis guilty in the Twilight zone case, it's unlikely they'll find him guilty in this one.

You are going to have the mediocre civil servent in Sante Fe, NM against the best Hollywood lawyers Baldwin can muster.

I know that because I was trained. Baldwin was handed what he was told was a cold gun and directed to fire it at the camera.

Incidentally, even in the military, accidents happen. When I was at Ft. Sill, OK for boot camp in 1981, we had a range instructor who lost half a foot because a recruit didn't put his weapon on safety and shot it off.

Would you do that?
Most circumstances, no.

But if I were in a hurry, and someone I reasonably trusted directed me, and maybe it was a long day, people make mistakes.

The mistake here was by the armorer, who either loaded it with live rounds or let someone else goof off with it and load live rounds. That's something I wouldn't have done.

I know one time on a training excercise, one of our rifles was signed out by a soldier from a sister company, because my armorer wasn't paying attention. (Fortunately, I recognized the EM's signature, and tracked him down.

Remind me to never, ever stand in front of you, killer.

The study found 1,676 Americans were reported to have drowned in a tub during this five-year period, an average of 335 a year. Infants, very young children and the elderly are at risk, but more than half of all tub deaths are among able-bodied people between the ages of 5 and 64.

Deaths from mass shootings remain at multi-year highs, too: Some 626 people have been killed in mass shootings so far this year, compared to 584 in 2022, 599 in 2021 and 433 in 2020.

He died of a stroke because he went through a traumatic event.

No, he died from a stroke because he had bad genetics, and an unhealthy lifestyle......

I'm sure the people killed or injured in those 626 incidents will be happy to know you aren't counting them.

Then why is his family suing Trump and his followers?

Because it happened in D.C. and they know it is run by democrats who will happily give them money they don't deserve...

He will never be convicted
He was using a weapon he assumed was a prop
He failed to do what everyone handling a firearm is responsible to do. He pulled the trigger of a firearm without checking the pistol’s status.

He was negligent and because of that negligence he killed someone. There is a shared responsibility though.

actors and actress are more under educated then most. so many drop out to become famous.

It was his responsibility to verify that. Thats the responsibility of anyone who handles a firearm. He was negligent.

Not everyone is an ammosexual who thinks about guns all the time.

He was handed what he was told was a cold gun, that had been certified by an armorer.

That should have been good enough.

I was an Armorer when I was a service. When I issued a weapon, they rarely checked it for live rounds, because they knew I wasn't storing live rounds in the arms vault. (We also stored the bolts and weapons separately, but that's another issue.)
