Miami, FL (AHN) - Miami police say at least one masked gunman armed with an AK-47 assault rifle shot into a crowd of people on a street corner Friday night killing two teenagers and wounding seven others.

The shooting happened in the northwest Miami neighborhood of Liberty City on a street corner where a group of teenagers and young men were playing and watching a game of craps.

Detectives say at least one gunman opened fire with an AK-47 and ran around the corner while continuing to fire his weapon. Police say they also found rounds from a second weapon.

The victims who died were 16-year-old Brandon Mills and 18-years-old Derrick Gloster.

Miami police Chief John Timoney said homicides from assault rifles comprised 29 percent of all murders in 2008.

Pharmacist is first Fort Lauderdale murder victim of 2009

Fort Lauderdale's first homicide of the year is a case of one man stabbed to death, allegedly by his former neighbor.


A young pharmacist killed in his Fort Lauderdale apartment and left there for days was slain by his former neighbor in a fight, police said Wednesday.
Erik Trimarelli was 26 and hailed from the suburbs of Philadelphia. The licensed pharmacist had recently moved to Fort Lauderdale from Deerfield Beach, where he had lived since March 2007.
Police said he was stabbed to death Jan. 12 by Raul Cintron, 34, who had lived for about a week and a half in the unit next to his in a triplex in the 900 block of Northeast 16th Court.

We use to be a civilized nation. We need to bring back education funding for the schools and pump more money into low income areas. At this point in time the government is building more prisons than schools. We need to get rid of illegal aliens that don't belong here sucking up education funding and social services. And something needs to be done about violence on T.V. and the videos. Children do not need to be brought up watching violence and gore. Give the children back their childhoods.
