Adm McRaven: Our Republic Is Under Attack From the President

Obama’s guy...
General Mattis thinks Trump is an a-hole too. Trump`s guy.
Who served under Obama, also. There is a reason he is known as Mad Dog. And he was a war machine, something Trump is not. He resigned when Trump originally wanted to pull troops from Syria.
Trump is sending troops to Iraq and Saudi Arabia and the only thing the Saudis ever gave us was the hijacking terrorists and a murdered journalist.

They also buy billions in military equipment, miaintenance, and training. Good-paying American jobs.

In August 2018, McRaven expressed support for former CIA Director John O. Brennan, whose security clearance had recently been revoked by the Trump Administration. He authored an open letter to President Donald Trump in The Washington Post entitled "Revoke my security clearance, too, Mr. President", in which he affirmed his regard for Brennan, his former colleague, and offered criticism of the decisions and personal behavior of President Trump. McRaven said of Brennan, "He is a man of unparalleled integrity, whose honesty and character have never been in question ... except by those who don't know him."

Adm McRaven: Our Republic Is Under Attack From the President
Opinion | Our Republic Is Under Attack From the President

If President Trump doesn’t demonstrate the leadership that America needs, then it is time for a new person in the Oval Office.

By William H. McRaven
Admiral McRaven is a former commander of the United States Special Operations Command.

Oct. 17, 2019

<snip>

But, if we don’t care about our values, if we don’t care about duty and honor, if we don’t help the weak and stand up against oppression and injustice — what will happen to the Kurds, the Iraqis, the Afghans, the Syrians, the Rohingyas, the South Sudanese and the millions of people under the boot of tyranny or left abandoned by their failing states?

If our promises are meaningless, how will our allies ever trust us? If we can’t have faith in our nation’s principles, why would the men and women of this nation join the military? And if they don’t join, who will protect us? If we are not the champions of the good and the right, then who will follow us? And if no one follows us — where will the world end up?

President Trump seems to believe that these qualities are unimportant or show weakness. He is wrong. These are the virtues that have sustained this nation for the past 243 years. If we hope to continue to lead the world and inspire a new generation of young men and women to our cause, then we must embrace these values now more than ever.

And if this president doesn’t understand their importance, if this president doesn’t demonstrate the leadership that America needs, both domestically and abroad, then it is time for a new person in the Oval Office — Republican, Democrat or independent — the sooner, the better. The fate of our Republic depends upon it.

William H. McRaven, a retired Navy admiral, is a former commander of the United States Special Operations Command and former chancellor of The University of Texas system.

Trump is a traitor and a criminal that needs to be removed and imprisoned for his treason against the United states! About time our military start standing up against him.

By far, he isn't the only generals who has bashed Trump regarding his incompetent
judgement and the betrayal of the Kurds.
Another former CENTCOM general weighs in with displeasure over Trump’s Syria gambit
Oh and don't count on the military, to save his presidency at the ballot box or anything else.
I see the blind Little Trumpeters are still looking for a ray of light.
Why would a general object?

And why didn’t congress vote on war?

It seems you’re implying the generals care more for the Kurds than their own men? Hahaha hahaha

The US asked the Kurds to help fight ISIS. The ratio of fighter deaths, 8 Americans and over 10,000 Kurds. What do you think the American death totals would have been without the Kurds?
The troops who fought next to the Kurds have come out against Trump's incompetency and his betrayal of the Kurds. I would guess that most fighters who were involved in the ME would stand with the Kurds, versus a draft dodger who knows nothing about what the Kurds meant as an ally or didn't care..
Trump got rolled by Turkey, they got everything they wanted. Trump caved.

The US never "asked the Kurds to fight ISIS!" They were already fighting them and the US simply offered to supply them with arms and ammo and help set up air strikes against their enemies.

Wrong! Obama partner up with the Kurds in 2014 and Trump increased the partnership when he provided the Kurds with weapons.
The problem was that Erdogan and other Turkish officials did not want to work with the United States. When then-President Barack Obama went looking for allies to mount the fight against the Islamic State in 2014
There’s Always a Next Time to Betray the Kurds
Do you ever fact check yourself, before you post? Or do you just wing it.

I love how Little Trumpsters walk lock-step with Trump who has zero experience in anything military because instead of serving his country, he chose not to.
Yet, when decades of of military experience use their voice to differ with the draft dodger, you weak-mined twerps go with Trump! That is not even close to logical, it's just plain blind stupidity.
How about those who fought side by side with the Kurds?

You know, for the way that Trump has been pissing all over the Constitution, as well as breaking several laws (Emoluments Clause, Hatch Act to name a couple), EVERY military member, as well as all veterans should remember their Oath of Enlistment, where they promised to support and defend the Constitution of the United States, against all enemies, both foreign and domestic.

Trump is a domestic threat to our Constitution and should be removed.

There you g again! You just had to prove that you are a dumbass! Mission accomplished, titless WAVE!

Emoluments Clause? You can;t even define it, much less cite a case where he has even been accused rightly.

The Hatch Act does not apply to the President dumbass! If it did, every President would be guilty of breaking it!

Thank you for that exceptional effort on proving why no one she bother listening to your clap-trap.

The Hatch Act
"The Hatch Act restricts federal employee participation in certain partisan political activities. The political activity restrictions apply during the entire time of an employee’s federal service. Certain rules prohibit both on-duty and off-duty conduct.

"Partisan political activities are those activities directed at the success or failure of a political party, candidate for partisan political office, or partisan political group. While most Federal employees are permitted to take an active part in partisan political management and partisan political campaigns, the Hatch Act does prohibit certain participation by all Federal employees. Federal employees may not seek public office in partisan elections, use their official title or authority when engaging in political activity, solicit or receive contributions for partisan political candidates or groups, and engage in political activity while on duty."

Trunk has already violated this act, and case in point is attacking the Bidens.

The Emoluments Clause is spelled out in Art. I and Art. II of COTUS, his recent decision to have the G7 stay at his property is a prima facie case and a fait accompli.

Interesting. A VERY good case can be made that Schumer, Pelosi, and a number of deep state appointees from the last administration are a threat to the Constitution. You are correct in that the oath is to the Constitution, not any one person, elected or not.

I've often thought that Schiff, Nadler, and Cummings were good candidates for questionable loyalty as well as a number of broken laws.

The Hatch Act was put into effect to keep FEDERAL EMPLOYEES from participating in political activities.

Those elected to office are not included and were never meant to be. Neither are those appointed by the president to government positions.

The only traitors in this nation are the Marxist/Leninist Democrats. As for the crap over their in the Middle East, Muslims have been killing Muslims for centuries. The reason: Each faction considers the others "not true Muslims...or...not Muslim enough." Per a PEW research study some years ago, there are approximately 320,000,000 Muslims that could fall into that "radical" category. That's approximately the population of our entire nation. They believe all of you and me "non-believers," should be converted to Islam, subjugated (second-class citizens), or killed.
Erdogan of Turkey told the EU, that if they didn't allow the massive flow of Muslims into Europe, he would consider it a war between the Cross and the Crescent Moon.
Let them kill each other.

But when he goes public with comments that are inflammatory and politicized and designed to
instill a sense of fear and false danger to our republic then he has crossed a line it would be perfectly legal and proper for the president to hit back at McRaven with whatever censures he has at his disposal.
Military code of conduct. Disobedience of an order.

Sorry, but the UCMJ applies to retirees only in certain conditions. And, if he's hit his over 30 mark, he cannot be recalled to active duty, nor can he be processed under the UCMJ. If he's still a member of the Fleet Reserve, there are certain conditions where he could fall under it, but it's highly doubtful.

New 'Bombshell' Legal Opinion Says Military Retirees Can't Be Court-Martialed

Begani was court-martialed because of a federal law that leaves some troops subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice long after they hang up the uniform. Marines and sailors who leave active duty after more than 20 years in uniform but less than 30 and who want to collect retiree pay move into the Fleet Reserve or Fleet Marine Corps Reserve.

There they receive what is essentially retainer pay and can be summoned back to active duty without their consent in the event of war or a national emergency. After 30 years of active or inactive service, retirees are then transferred to the Regular Retired List and they're no longer subject to the UCMJ.

"Retired" and "former" are the relevant words here. They served under the politicians who got us into this mess. The thinking has changed.

Pretty much routine when anyone, no matter who or what their station or position in life and society may be, will be attacked, disparaged, and demonized by Trump and a small minority of his seemingly brainwashed robot-like supporters. Even those who have served honorably in the military and repeatedly proved dedication, patriotism, and loyalty to America are subjected to organized attacks by Trump lies and dishonest talking points and echoed by his hypocritical cohorts who falsely claim patriotism while attacking those who have insured their rights and freedoms.
