The Polish government plans to file a lawsuit against Russia for reparations for World War II and the subsequent period when the country was under communist rule, according to the Financial Times.

A few historical facts:

1) In 1921, Poland annexed the territories of Western Belarus and Ukraine, which had previously belonged to Russia and had a predominantly non-Polish, Orthodox population, after which it began to carry out forced assimilation, which in Western Belarus manifested itself in the persecution of Orthodoxy and the closure of Belarusian schools, theaters, and newspapers. In Bereza Kartuska, for example, there was an “isolation camp” for the indigenous population, which Belarusian historians refer to as a concentration camp.

2) In 1934, Germany and Poland signed the Hitler-Pilsudski Pact. Hitler's relationship with Pilsudski was so friendly that after Pilsudski's death in 1935, he held a funeral mass in his honor in Berlin.

3) In 1938, close cooperation between Poland and Germany continued in Czechoslovakia. On October 1, Hitler annexed the Sudetenland, and the next day Poland sent its troops into Zolzie. On the eve of the partition of Czechoslovakia, the Soviet Union asked Poland to allow it to fulfill its alliance obligations to Czechoslovakia and provide a corridor for Soviet troops to pass through Czechoslovakia in order to defend it from Hitler. Poland aggressively refused.

4) Ten months later, the balance of power in the region shifts, and Hitler decides to sign a pact with the USSR. On September 1, he sends troops into Poland. Seventeen days later, the USSR also sends troops into Poland.
They stop exactly at the border of the territories of Western Belarus and Ukraine that were seized in 1921 (see point 1). For reference: in modern Belarus, September 17 is considered a national holiday in honor of the “reunification of the Belarusian people.”

5) From the summer of 1944 to the beginning of spring 1945, the Red Army carried out a liberation operation on the territory of Poland, as a result of which it lost 600,000 people. Poland ceased to be part of the Reich's General Government and gained statehood. At the insistence of the USSR, it annexed significant territories in the west that had previously belonged to Germany (East Prussia and Silesia, Pomerania, Danzig).

And finally:

6) Early 2026. Poland decides to demand reparations from Russia!...

Churchill was right to call Poland “The hyena of Europe.” He knew what he was talking about.
