Fighting crime by legalizing and protecting criminal activity will not work. It wasn't the end of prohibition that reduced crime, it was serious and intense efforts by law enforcement, notably the FBI. It was police that were none too picky about how criminals were treated or whether they lived or died.

You want to clean up a drug infested neighborhood? Send in linebacker size police with fully automatic weapons, rubber hoses and billy clubs. Because THAT is what reduced crime. Bodies found in alleys reduced crime.

Since Fentanyl is so powerful the black market labs can easily get the dosage wrong.

What is happening is any jackhole can create his own fentany lab in his kitchen. These amateurs are not using laboratory grade equipment. When these bozos are whipping up a batch and encapsulating the drugs, they are technically getting the ratios right. However, because they are using department store blenders, the mixture is uneven such that some pills get very few grains of fentanyl while another pill in the same batch gets a fatal number of grains.

You are literally playing Russian roulette when you buy fentanyl from an amateur.

When the Sacklers were running their drug ring which kicked off this epidemic, their company used top quality machinery to ensure consistency from one pill to the next.

Imagine how many residential treatment centers could have been built with the hundreds and hundreds of billions we have completely wasted on interdiction.

Imagine instead of stigmatizing, and contemplating the death penalty for, the afflicted, we helped them kick their curse and put the drug lords out of business that way.
