Many people depend on Social Security. It kept taking more and more from employees or people earning an income from businesses. Putting the money collected for Social Security into the general fund masks the real deficit. And the positive of the system will go negative in a few years which makes the federal government have a worse problem. In the 1980's the then power said the system would not go into deficit until the 1980's at 4% economic annual growth. That has not happened. And we have added others to the SS roles for other reasons also.
