John Bolton agrees to a plea deal to plead guilty to one felony count of illegal retention of sensitive national security information and pay a $2 million fine.

A Potential Sentence: Conviction carries 0–60 months in prison, but charges related to sharing classified documents are not included in this plea.

Background: Originally charged with 18 counts, including transmission and retention of national defense info; investigation stemmed from his 2020 memoir and personal diary entries.

No one from Trump on down should illegally retain national security information. No shield immunity law should protect anyone: not Trump or Bolton or Biden.

Unless he goes to prison it's a bad plea deal.

Trump finally got a scalp, sort of!

Couldn't happen to a finer Neo-Con. Its got to really annoy him that he was in the wrong administration and not the current one. He could be bombing people left and right.

Give him the same punishment that Biden got for stealing classified documents to give to his Chinese "biographer".

Yeah, a far-right republican.

Clearly the democrats are devestated...or at least that will be the spin from the peanut gallery.

I've said all along that we should be fair about the whole thing. You don't let Biden do it for decades and decades or Hillary Clinton have personal email servers in her basement and purposely delete thousands of State Dempartment emails against a court order and then throw the book at Trump. Treat them all the same, one way or the other.

The inescapable aspect of the case involving trump's illegal retention of classified docs is he knew he had them and refused to comply with a subpoena for their return. It is the essential element separating his case from Biden's.

As he almost always does, he avoided accountability by way of lawfare.
