A prayer room and foot-washing stations are being added to MN High School

Texas and Louisiana has the Ten Commandments in them now, and student religious groups are common.

I will never understand the 10 Commandments in schools.

They are God's rules for God's people. Not that there aren't some good things in there, like lying, murdering and stealing. But for heaven's sake, what about the adultery? Why is that necessary in school?

The public schools I went to here in Florida allowed students to pray in public as long as it doesn't interfere with foot traffic.
We had prayer circles in the Court Yard at high school and some staff had a negative view of it but gave no problems.
I would say a quick prayer to myself at lunch and religion was discussed by students out side the classroom and inside during free time periods along with other issues. We had a teacher who would grill you on your religious belief during those discussions so you needed to be on top of the subject .

Well this is now not 50 years ago.

Well you know its a slippery slope..once you open that door then all religions and sects will want their say,

Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it!

People often do not realize that students' first amendment rights do not end at the schoolhouse door. They can pray on their free time; they can get together at lunch and pray. We can't stop them from doing this, nor should we.

I think it sets a moral code that people can live by their whole lives. Learning them early is all the better.
However, the 10 Commandments in schools ... I'm pretty neutral on that.

If all are not allowed then they will have a problem.
Of course they will not allow Jews. Not Christians or Buddhists or Mormons either but especially not Jews. The Muslims will claim that requiring them to allow unclean people in their prayer room is effectively not allowing them to have the prayer room at all.

If the story is real, this is a spectacularly bad idea. Besides the many issues that must come up when the state decides to cater to one religion only, this is a a school mass shooting waiting to happen.

Opinion noted.

Wow
Once again, the open bigotry of some evangelicals and most of the Trump lickers is here on full display.

It began with the promotion of yet another X post from someone noone ever heard of, citing a right wing blog nobody ever heard of.

It makes claims about foot washing and a prayer room.

But the actual drawings shown in the x post, show no plumbing and concrete work that is clearly a handicapped ramp.

This is fake news.

And yet every Trumpster and islamophobe bout it at face value, never questioned or looked up any claims, but just started about ranting about a fake news claim.

Again! For the umpteenth time.

Bigotry trump's facts with this crowd, every time.

Oh, BTW, had any of these clowns bothered to check, they would have found no project to do prayer rooms or foot washing stations at all.

Indeed, the only project listed for Park Center is a tennis court.

You've been rope a doped again by trashy right wing media.
Wow. Now that is how you take down a thread.

God has never been removed from schools. Students have always been able to practice their religious beliefs.

So if this story is true, does that mean we can put the 10 commandments back in the schools?

15th post
What do you have against expression of religion and worship?
We don’t. But leftys are doing everything they can to remove religion from schools, it seems you all are the ones with a problem with it…or so we thought.

You always could as long as you allow the Koran or such also.

Is that what you want?

Why? You have Bibles in schools and the commandments are in there, what right does anyone have to select specific bits of the text and emphasize that?
