The inherent rights of any one single individual is superior to the mere desires of the whole rest of the society.
Controlling people is only legal when absolutely necessary in order to defend the rights of others.
When rights come into conflict, then a compromise has to be implemented.

Liberalism is just the absolute defense of individual liberties.
That has also come to mean a generous or liberal interpretation of government being allowed to do everything that it is not specifically prohibited from doing in the constitution, vs conservatism which chooses instead to interpret the constitution as strictly prohibiting anything which is not explicitly authorized.

And socialism is the recognition with the industrial revolution, that all individuals are so dependent upon expensive means of production, that anyone with control over the capital needed for the means of production, can make virtual economic slaves out of the whole society, if not carefully regulated. Unions and labor law typically are the means of implementing socialism these days.

I got skills that could enable me to work on F-15s so I went overseas where I was paid $70,000 all tax free. I also was able to contribute to a 401 plan that paid me 3% for every 5% I contributed. I put in the most and came home with 1/2 million dollars. I left the comforts of home to make wealth, too many lazy liberal bums, just stay at home, collect welfare, do nothing, smoke pot, bitch and complain they dont have a life, then want the government to take from me what I have earned. Though we did spend a lot on the Vietnam war, we always managed to balance the budget. It wasn’t until Reagan got into office did we start running up debts. But even then Reagan did raise taxes in an attempt to balance the budget and would’ve succeeded if we had cut defense spending but Reagan wanted his 600 ship Navy and SDI.

The problem we have with not being able to cut defense spending today is that the defense industry has spread their plants or subcontracted in every state and no representatives, D or R, are about to close them to save money without the other side weaponizing and politicizing those closings as a war on middle class American workers.

Another problem is automation replacing human workers. I have no idea how to fix that and still remain competitive in a world economy. It’s a conundrum.

I never asked where the national debt came from because I know.
It came almost entirely from military borrowing and spending.
There has never been significant welfare in the US, and it would never have been legal to increase the national debt in order to finance welfare.
The War on Poverty did not increase the national debt at all, and no welfare has been available to males who were not disables, for many decades.

First of all historically the national debt has been illegal except for emergency allocations voted in by Congress during times of war.

But that changed with Reagan, who borrowed heavily for SDI during supposed peacetime.
