I’ve never quite understood that about our justice system....
If you are convicted of murder, you need to spend a significant amount of your life behind bars before the word “parole” is ever whispered. For example, the ALS in the US is about 80 years. If there is any chance of parole and the guy who is convicted is 30, He needs to spend at least 40 years in jail; 80% of the sentence before he can apply for parole.
