3rd Or 4th Train Now Derails, This One Near Detroit. Pete, What's Up, Man?

Obviously the industry needs more controls placed on them. They can't seem to operate safely.
Nonsense, a train in motion cannot stop on a dime, regardless of 'warning' systems. The bigger problem is cars and trucks at crossings failing to heed the warnings of incoming trains.

Despite that not being an issue in any of these cases.

In the wake of a disastrous rail accident in Ohio, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg says he doesn’t have the power to compel the rail industry to upgrade its safety equipment and procedures. But he does.

In a Twitter thread posted more than a week after Norfolk Southern’s fiery train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, Buttigieg indicated that he cannot reinstate an Obama-enacted, Trump-repealed law requiring some trains carrying hazardous materials to replace their Civil War–era braking systems with new electronically controlled pneumatic (ECP) brake technology.
Trump repealed the safety standards based on the analysis requested by the Obama administration to determine the cost benefit analysis for using the advanced braking system. The analysis concluded that it would be cost prohibitive and Trump followed Obama's recommendation to repeal.

According to reports 2 safety boxes located in 2 towns prior to Palestine detected the heat ftom the train car's axel. Both should have sent signals directly to the train to let them know. It is not reported yet if this happened and what the conductor's actions were if it did.

It does not seem additional govt regulations would help / have prevented this ... unless the company did not maintain adequate inspections and keep maintenance up.

No clue what the cause of the other 2 - 3 were, but Pete will get to the bottom of it...

That's what he gets for listening to Obama.

No rational American would support increasing regulation on ANYTHING.
Hummmmm.

Seatbelts in Cars
Hockey Players NOW required to wear Helmets.
Safety Harnesses for Fall Protection - OSHA
Employment and Labor Laws

These are ALL bad, and "NO rational American would support increasing regulation on ANYTHING." DGS49
We don't need no stinking regulations.

The Ohio case was due to a mechanical failure the braking system couldn't have prevented anyway. Next.

That has been discussed many times today already. While they suspect the mechanical failure that has not been verified yet and the more we find out the more questions that develop.

See post #24.

We don't need no stinking regulations.

As a kid growing up we didn't wear a helmet riding my bicycle, didn't wear elbow/knee pads/ gloves when skateboarding, played tackle football without pads with my friends/family on holidays / weekends, rodr in the vack of pick-up trucks without seatbelts, and even went sledding at night - no lights - down a really steep ice-covered road with a drop-off on one side - using thick gloves to 'steer', and more...

And we survived, probably because we didn't know we were supposed to get hurt / die doing all these things ... or maybe it was because we were a helluva lot tougher then than the soft, transgenderfied, bathroom-confused Liberal indoctrinated pansies being created today ... or maybe God was just looking out for us ... or all of the above.

:dunno:

We didn't need no steenking govt regulations.
