A train — including one tanker carrying hazardous material — has derailed west of Detroit in Van Buren Township, Mich.

Police claim there are no injuries and no threats to the public, though traffic has been stopped on a nearby interstate for several hours.

No toxic spills, no contamination, no injuries repirted with this one, thank goodness.

In the wake of a disastrous rail accident in Ohio, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg says he doesn’t have the power to compel the rail industry to upgrade its safety equipment and procedures. But he does.

In a Twitter thread posted more than a week after Norfolk Southern’s fiery train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, Buttigieg indicated that he cannot reinstate an Obama-enacted, Trump-repealed law requiring some trains carrying hazardous materials to replace their Civil War–era braking systems with new electronically controlled pneumatic (ECP) brake technology.

Obviously the industry needs more controls placed on them. They can't seem to operate safely.

a Transportation Department spokesperson said that its agencies would “use all relevant authorities to ensure accountability and improve safety” once the investigation into the cause of the derailment is completed.

Asked about the braking rule, the spokesperson said that it would be difficult “to reinstate the rule in its previous configuration,” given previous legal challenges.

The spokesperson said proposing a new rule would require performing a new cost-benefit analysis, though they acknowledged that the department has the ability to prepare that analysis.

In 2018, Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) demanded exactly that from the Transportation Department.

BNSF owns the majority of the US railway
Warren Buffet owns BNSF.

(Burlington Northern Santa Fe, LLC is the parent company of the BNSF Railway (formerly the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway). The company is an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, which is controlled by investor Warren Buffett.)

From what I have read so far (nothing 100% definitive) it looks like BNSF involved in Palestine, Oh derailment.

If so, I wonder if residents / lawyers will attempt to sue Berkshire Hathaway / Buffet for damages, especially if Biden's FEMA screws them over by denying Disaster Relief funding.

One of two things is happening: Either there are derailments on a regular basis, but until recently they were not considered newsworthy, or there are vandals putting shit on the tracks.

No rational American would support increasing regulation on ANYTHING. The Trump idea of repealing two regulations for every new one was a good start.

If it appears the RR's are facing increased liabilities because of certain parts of trains, then in the normal course of things, they will take precautions to avoid or minimize those liabilities. No need for Government action.

Unless you are a Leftist.

They did show AXELS on fire before the Ohio Train went off the tracks. But why did the heat sensors fail or be ignored? Who took the grease outa the axels....? very suspicious.

A long while back it was muslims putting stuff on tracks.

Yes, there are derailments on a regular basis and it wasn't considered newsworthy until we had a fag for a Transportation Sec and Republicans uncanny knack for manufacturing outrage over it...

Since we average 1700 train derailments a year....we gotta a whole lot more outraging to do...

My question is....what did Bush know in 2002 and when did he know it? We already know he was behind 9/11

That is bullsh**. Again I want to see that link.

Pipelines are considered too dangerous. Besides, liberal enablers like Buffett don't own pipelines but they do own railroads.
Except he does...

but don't let me stop you while you are pulling shit out ya ass...

The derailment in Palestine Ohio was hardly a minor event. The fact that the leftist media chose to ignore it tells me all I need to know. Covering for their little pet pickle sniffer. Then blame Trump for what happened on his watch. The cocksucker is asleep at the switch and is only concerned with his image as a "trail blazing" faggot.

It's wild to see right-wingers whine about there being too many regulations on corporations and we should just trust them more -- on the very same post whining about why the government isn't doing more ...these folks are insufferable
Where have you been? Conservatives have always been against massive govt over-regulations. Obama set records for new / total number of regulations added.
