If the federal government collects the same revenues as it spends in outlays, we have what is called a "balanced budget".

Boy, we have not heard Republicans calling for a balanced budget in decades!

If the federal government collects LESS revenues than it spends, we have a deficit which gets added to the total debt.

If the government decides to collect EVEN LESS revenues through tax breaks for the rich and spends even more, then the deficit explodes, and it also gets added to the total debt.

If one looks at federal revenues after the Trump 1.0 tax cuts, we see revenues went up from 2017 through 2019 a pitiful, measly, weak 4 percent. I excluded the Covid years out of fairness.

So it looks like the tax cuts increased revenues a teeny, tiny bit right?

But revenues have increased every year for decades, even when Obama raised taxes!

What's more, if we look at the three years preceding Trump's tax cuts, we find revenues increased 8 percent. DOUBLE the next three years!

So those tax cuts really put a dent in revenues.

Now, if we look at outlays for the same period (2017 through 2019), we find Trump increased spending by 11 percent.

So the deficit grew. In fact, during that period Trump DOUBLED the federal deficit, and a good part of that was his tax cuts.

And not one MAGA complained.

Interest on the Debt also doubled from $500b to $1T. Trump-47 and the GOP are trying to fix the budget, no thanks to you and the other Kamala voters. Tariff revenue should exceed $300b. DOGE found $190b, the BBB cut $1.5T off Biden's 2024 budget, the CBO estimates growth at 1.8%, it should be about 3%, and lastly the Fed should start cutting rates which will save $billions in interest on the debt.
