20% of Trump Supporters "disapprove of Lincoln freeing the slaves"

Nearly 20 percent of Trump’s supporters disapprove of Lincoln freeing the slaves

Question 49

5% of people strongly disapprove of freeing the slaves.

8% slightly disapprove.

Isn't that just a little scary?

Before asking about slavery, YouGov first asked two broader poll questions about executive orders: Do you approve of them, and do you think they're constitutional? Then they asked about specific presidential actions, including freeing the slaves, desegregating the military, interning Japanese Americans during World War II, and deferring deportation for some unauthorized immigrants.

Framing the question this way is a reminder that one of Lincoln's greatest acts, and a turning point in American history, was also a controversial exercise of presidential power. And it's stunning how many people can't bring themselves to say they approve of it.

Very Confusing to most people.

I understand what you're saying.

But then most people would say it doesn't matter how you abolish slavery, it was abolished.

How many people do you think have the presence of mind to say it would have been better to wait another 50 years for Congress to get around to doing it?

It's one of those things that is never done by Congress. There are far too many people in Congress representing people who just didn't want such things to happen.

Ending slavery, ending segregation, stopping bans on gay marriage were granted outside of Congress, only giving women the right to vote has passed with a Constitutional Amendment. The 14th Amendment only succeed because they forced Southern states to adopt it, or else get no Congressmen.

How many people do you think opposed the manner, but supported the action? I'd say not many.
The 14th amendment passed because Republicans forced Democrats to except it.

Rich democrats/tards owned slaves
Poor farmers did not
Lincoln (republican) ended slavery
Democrats/tards turned right around and created the KKK
Indisputable facts, tards
Suck on 'em

Trump declines to condemn former KKK leader who backed him
Source: The Guardian

Donald Trump on Sunday declined to condemn David Duke, the former Ku Klux Klan leader who this week urged sympathisers to vote for the billionaire in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.

“I don’t know anything about David Duke,” Trump said, in an interview on CNN, adding: “Certainly I would disavow it if I thought there was something wrong.”

-----------snip------------

“I don’t know anything about David Duke. I don’t know anything about what you’re even talking about with white supremacy or white supremacists,” Trump said.

“So I don’t know. I don’t know – did he endorse me, or what’s going on? Because I know nothing about David Duke; I know nothing about white supremacists.”

Oh, I seriously doubt that. Sounds like some loony left poll that was deceptively worded and then misleadingly reported.

I'm just guessing here: Was the question about *how* Lincoln freed the slaves, i.e., the emancipation proclamation? You realize that the EP only applied to slaves in Confederate territory and that it left hundreds of thousands of Union slaves in bondage, right? Right? Go read the EP. It specifies this.

In other words, it didn't free a single slave. Furthermore, it was unconstitutional.

I did answer the question, you witless poltroon, but you're too stupid to understand the answer.

Oh, I must have missed that. Could you perhaps answer it again, "do you think former slaveholders should be compensated?"

A simple yes or no will do
A socialist is someone even dumber and more dishonest than a libturd.

Nah, what's really dumb is poor people voting for a billionaire thinking he'll make them rich too.

What's dishonest about being socialist?

:alcoholic:

Your question is irrelevant to the issue being discussed, which is whether Lincoln's emancipation proclamation was constitutional. It wasn't. End of story. You're obviously just trying to race bait like a typical leftwing douche.

Socialism is a pack of lies, and only liars would defend it.

Directly I agree, Lincoln didn't have that authority to make a decree like that. However, the Constitution said that you could not be deprived of live, liberty or property without due process of law, and slavery clearly violated that. So Lincoln could have said the government will start enforcing the Constitution.

Of course I have other issues with what he did in the civil war, but on that narrow point, he could have put the same message differently. Despite the mention of slavery in the Constitution, there is no exemption put in it that the bill of rights only applies to some Americans and not others

The Supreme Court had previously ruled that slaves were property.

That's true. Government is seriously fucked

Yes, and?

It also passed because Conservatives were forced to accept it by liberals. We don't need you silly games to distort reality here.

Sorry that old switched sides thing doesn't fly. Liberal Slave owning Democrats interpreted the Constitution in a way that allowed them to own slaves. Democrats today still treat the laws of the land the same.

The You.Gov poll was to the general population. Not Trump supporters. I'm on the link right now.

How, how do democrats today still treat the laws of the land the same? How do Republicans not do this?

I get the feeling this is going to be a complete and utter waste of time.

Slavery didn't end until after Lincolns' death. Southern Conservatives formed the KKK to roll back the policies of the reconstruction period.

That's what the Constitution said, you race baiting moron.

That wasn't the question, I asked if you think former slaveholders should be compensated
Leftwingers are so stupid it's amazing they have enough brain power to make their lungs work.

Actually, Gore did say that:

Al Gore: "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet."

That's because it's 20% of TRUMP SUPPORTERS, but 5% of the overall population.

That, and the fact that it's complete bullshit from an insane leftist source that is a honey trap infecting those who click on your link with malware.

I am not a fan of Trump, but the fact that you scum have to stoop to these absurd lies shows the fear that you morons have of him.

You sure are a scumbag.

democrats formed the KKK, specifically to terrorize Republicans, whom the democrats called "caret baggers."

Because you are a reprehensible scumbag, and a democrat - but I repeat myself...
