The difference between our society telling a story about Jefferson the hero to liberty and freedom and Jefferson the slaving child rapist is the difference between elevating the stories and struggles of black Americans or the stories of pieces of shit like Washington or Jefferson. A society that believes Jefferson a hero is much less likely to pass reparations for black Americans than one that recognizes Jefferson as the slaving child rapist that he was.
