LOUISVILLE, Ky—At the Express Consignment Operations hubs in Louisville U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized a shipment from China that contained over 10,000 Assault Weapons parts being smuggled into the country.

The shipment was seized on May 22. Officers inspected the item, which was arriving from Shenzhen, China, destined for a residence in Melbourne, Florida. The parcel was manifested as containing 100 Steel Pin Samples. This is a common practice of smugglers manifesting the contraband as a harmless or a legitimate commodity in hopes of eluding further examination.

“The importing of any type of munitions is regulated by the ATF,” said Thomas Mahn, Port Director, Louisville. “This smuggler was knowingly trying to avoid detection, however, our officers remain vigilant, ensuring our community is safe.”

Nothing to see here China is our "friend".

It would have been nice if CBP had gone ahead and stated exactly what each of the parts were (with quantities), branding (if any), name of the business they were bound for, and owner of the business and owner of the property. While glad the shipment was intercepted back in May, this is almost August and the Feds could have been more forthcoming with more details, even warrants served and appearance dates in court. This is amazingly sparse on information, and follow up or action taken for the length of time after seizure. Did the investigation just fall apart?

"Assault Weapons?"

I will NOT be language tortured into accepting a loose, bullshit term that has no real definition and can be manipulated to cover all firearms.

That said, why is China smuggling weapons into the U.S.?

There are MANY moving parts to this.

You bet, just ask Nadless

What was illegal about this?

So far as I know, the only real ban on firearms was Reagan's McClure/Volkmer Act, back in 1986. Which, by the way, doesn't apply to weapons that are assembled with at least ten parts made in the US.

As I understand it, they were not "declared" but it appears to be a bigger issue than just avoiding import taxes.

Yeah, there has to be something else to it. They didn't really say what the parts were or what kind of weapons they were actually for.

We should be very guarded against just automatically accepting and celebrating this stuff ''because China.''

Would not be surprised, but would appreciate any update you come across as I suspect you have a feed set up and will prob see it, even if I miss it. It would be a Fed case. Should be indictments with more info than what was really put out. I glanced around yesterday after you post, but did not come up with anything else.

What? Americans light off Chinese fireworks for Fourth of July, but we aren't allowed to import or possess Chinese guns, let alone manufacture our own?
