You must also be aware that the media is running with this with some incorrect info. This so called "choke hold" is not the one they have outlawed. The media has repeated said that the purpose of the choke hold is to cut off the breathing of the subject. If you will look into it the hold that has been outlawed in many cities is actually carotid artery hold. This actually cuts off the blood supply to the brain and the subject goes limp and passes out. I learned this technique in the Marines and used it many times over the years in law enforcement.

Try policing 7 million people sometime. Your patience and tolerance will wane too. By and large NYPD and every other police department is filled with good honorable people. But in the process of doing that kind of work your ignoracne and naive' vanish and you're left seeing the world as it truly is. That's hard for a good person to confront. And it hurts their soul. That sometimes they then exercise bad judgement is to be expected and pitied.

The grand jury made a bad decision. Might have been the right decision though based on whatever legal semantic arguement they got that we don't know about yet. But legal considerations aside, the officer who did the chokehold should have been tried.

All this has done is say if you're up against a bigger suspect breaking the law to subdue is okay.

You are correct. He could not say he could not breath if this hold had been placed on him. He would just go limp.

You are correct. He could not say he could not breath if this hold had been placed on him. He would just go limp.

No, that's not how it works, I've been put in a chokehold before. It doesn't happen instantly. Not to mention, if the cop was doing in wrong, it would certainly cut off his breathing as well.
