Wisconsin protest has lost a LOT of steam

This isn't ending until Walker backs down.

Fake Koch: Right, right. We’ll back you any way we can. But what we were thinking about the crowd was, uh, was planting some troublemakers.

Walker: You know, well, the only problem with that — because we thought about that.

Fake Koch: [Laughs] Well, I tell you what, Scott: Once you crush these bastards I’ll fly you out to Cali (California) and really show you a good time.

Walker: All right, that would be outstanding.
MADISON, Wis. — Hundreds of off-duty police officers and deputies joined protests today against Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's budget repair bill that would strip most collective bargaining powers from about 170,000 public employees.

Police, state troopers and firefighters are exempt from Walker's proposal, but even as some marched on the downtown Capitol Square, hundreds of other officers from around the state provided security.

Off-duty cops join protests in Wisconsin - USATODAY.com

Protesters who spent the night in Wisconsin's Capitol vowed to remain as long as necessary to speak out against Governor Scott Walker's plan to end most collective bargaining rights.

After police caved in yesterday and refused to forcibly remove those occupying the Wisconsin state Capitol building, union leaders this morning predicted more protesters would join the demonstration.

There have been no arrests and protesters have been seen mingling and chatting with cops and cleaners inside the building, which has been occupied since February 15.

Keep dreaming.

This is never going to stop until the right stops trying to take rightss away from Americans

Taking "Rights from Americans??

Jeeze. I've never seen in the Constitution that Collective Bargaining was a Right??

You'll have to dig right in and show me where it says that TDM.

I'll wait.

Do the public employees now posses teh right to collective bargaining?

Does Walker want to take that right from them?

Collective Bargaining is NOT a right. It was a benefit and the State is going to take it away. Pretty simple concept really. Unless you can point to somewhere in the Wisconsin Constitution that makes it a right.

Wall Street speculation is NOT a right.

Wisconsin workers (and others) are not obligated to pay for its crimes.

"Wisconsin's democratic tradition faces the greatest threat it has ever known. Gov. Walker, operating at the direction of Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, is using the financial crisis caused by Wall Street speculators as an excuse to impose devastating cuts to public services. . . ."

Wisconsin Protest Wave:

Gotta crush those unions if you want to have a world safe for your corporate masters, folks.

The crowd inside the Capitol yesterday was described as "30-40." That was born out by the live feed.

The crowd outside was described as "hundreds." I haven't found video yet outside the Capitol yesterday.

There is no question they took the day off, even if they had started to control the number of people allowed inside.

Walker's speech on the Budget is later today. I suspect there will be a LOT of people there during the speech and after.

Then, its over. The outcome is already determined, and these are tired teachers, not tired loggers.

Shut off Internet and cellular access in the Capitol and I bet it ends in 5 minutes!

It's going to be interesting to listen to the spin from this episode come the next elections in Wisconsin. Democrats will rail about the Republicans destroying their system and Republicans will rail about the greed of the public employees and teachers. Should be a lively old time there in Wisconsin leading up to the next election. Wonder if anyone will mention the fact that the Democratic Senators all fled the State like spoiled little children... "Let me make the rules or I won't play the game..". I used to hear this on the playground all the time as a kid. Never thought I would see it in action from adult elected officials who only have a job because someone elected them into office. I think they should all be immediately fired if it was possible to do that.

I agree BBD, you've rarely shown an ability to put emotion aside and actually think. That observation aside, do you believe the US Senate Republican strategy to filibuster everything they disagreed with preventing open debate an honorable and valiant one?

Seems to me your statement would apply more to the Dems than the Reps.

The Dems are the ones who left the State because they apparantly didn't want to stay and debate the issue. No open and honorable debate there.

Valient?? Nah. Just gutless.

Honorable debate ...

If by "honorable debate" you mean "stay and take it up the ass" then surrrrre it was honorable.

Scott Walker's "honorable" plan to trick the Senate Dems into coming back to WI:

I think, collectively, there’s enough going on and as long as they don’t think I’m gonna cave — which, again, we have no interest in — an interesting idea that was brought up to me this morning by my chief of staff, we won’t do it until tomorrow, is putting out an appeal to the Democrat leader that I would be willing to sit down and talk to him, the assembly Democrat leader, plus the other two Republican leaders — talk, not negotiate — and listen to what they have to say if they will in turn — but I’ll only do it if all 14 of them come back and sit down in the state Assembly. They can recess it, to come back if we’re talking, but they all have to be back there. The reason for that is, we’re verifying it this afternoon, but legally, we believe, once they’ve gone into session, they don’t physically have to be there. If they’re actually in session for that day and they take a recess, the 19 Senate Republicans could then go into action and they’d have a quorum because they started out that way. Um, so we’re double checking that. But that would be the only, if you heard that I was going to talk to them, that would be the only reason why. We’d only do it if they came back to the capital with all 14 of them. And my sense is, hell, I’ll talk to them. If they want to yell at me for an hour, you know, I’m used to that, I can deal with that. But I’m not negotiating.

So you condone running away in the face of defeat?

I am just fine with the actions of the WI Senate Dems. They are doing the right thing. You can call it whatever you want if it makes you feel better. Walker has been exposed.

Ok.

Just wanted to be sure I understood your position.

I had a feeling yesterday's "break" would take a lot of the wind out of their sales, and it apparently has.

I suspect it will pick back up again tomorrow, as the Governor begins sending out the pink slips. Supposedly 2000 to be laid off this week, unless they get a quorum first.

Have you noticed liberals only get upset when they are demanding other people's money and calling the others greedy for not giving it to them?

This weekend a few hundred members of the ATU from the Twin Cities is coming to help the raucus caucus of liberal loonies in preventing the spreading death of public sector unions in protesting.

They asked me if I wanted to go, and I said sure... for the counter protest.

That's seems to be clear to everyone except those who believe the RW propaganda and rumor mongers.
The lack of honesty from the usual suspects (echo chamber) on this and other issues of substance is remarkable.

The negotiations are over.

The fight is over the vote. Dems don't want a vote to take place, but the Budget demands it. The Dems will ultimately lose that fight as well.

There is nothing left to negotiate. That part of the process is finished.

Socialism in a nutshell. These Public Unions have forgotten who they work for. They're not the Boss. The Taxpayer is. Time for them to get their asses back to work.
