Will The Republicans Ever Figure Out Why They Lost

.

I have no doubt that many, even most, Republicans know they have to marginalize their loons, those who allow the Democrats to make easy caricatures of the party. But the loons have enough influence to keep the pragmatic Republicans at arm's length.

Before they even work on their messaging (which will be crucial), before they even make final decisions on their platform, the GOP needs to find a way to keep their loons out of the spotlight. From "I'm not a witch" to "she's a slut", from "legitimate rape" to blaming God for earthquakes & hurricanes (and the list of examples goes on), the loons are making this pretty easy for the Dems..

You're kidding right? Loons have nothing to do with it, hell if that was the case the dems wouldn't have won, or do you not know who the VP is?

You are a loon and in denial. You are a classic example with what is wrong with the GOP.

Facs are that women and minorities say they will not let the small loony minority on the Republican far right determine the future of America. Either the GOP meets the changing demographic or it dies.

The media has tricked the majority of Republicans into believing they lost because of the minority vote. Anyone who has analyzed the results of the election knows that is not true.....but for some reason the Republican Party seems unable or unwilling to tell their people how Romney really lost the election.

If they hope to win next time or even if they just wish to insure they still exist as a party next time....they need to get honest with their fellow party members.

A major fight is shaping up regarding which faction will control the party. I do not expect the true conservatrives to win this fight. My opinion is that the true conservatives need to form their own party.

It has nothing to do with the race or color of the skin...

When you look at all the demographics.. the only one that was truly lost was those who make under 50K a year.. the very ones who either do not pay federal income taxes and/or receive government entitlements... it is a fight against those who are voting for freebies or for others to pay for services they will use in government

66% of unmarried women, 55% of married women, 93% of blacks, 73% of Hispanics, 71% of Asian Americans, and a solid minority of white males voted Democratic.

Either the GOP adapts to this or tries to suppress the vote. In too many places, the latter will happen in 2013 and 2014, and the anti-GOP vote from 2012 will rise up and crush the GOP in the 2014 elections.

Actually, Jack...the media has tricked the majority of Americans into believing that we can keep on spending trillions in borrowed money on entitlements and generally wasteful government and that if we just raise taxes on rich people (ie someone else) that we can pay for it all.

The GOP is pointing out the unfortunate truth...that if we continue down this path we WILL become a larger but just as broke Greece.

I suppose that the GOP could adopt the same position as the Democrats...that if you vote for us we'll give you lots of free stuff that someone else will be forced to pay for...but someone has to be the adult in this equation.

Democrats may "win" in the short term but at some point their policies will lead to fiscal collapse. So who "wins" then?

So you are saying it is about race?? Ridiculous...

It all comes down the the economics of freebies, and class warfare.... it does not matter the racial or sexual demographic when it is above the 50K income level

Agreed.

The Dems picked our candidates the last two cycles and they were Republican Moderates, both of whom lost to the worst POTUS in recent history.

Moderates need to be moved to doing little more than cleaning ash tray and handing out flyers

How did you let that happen?

Certainly race, sex, and economic conditions had to do with the election. Arguing that it is "class warfare" while denying the changing demographics directed the outcome serves only the winners.

Cool dude. Just what is it that you think the government gives me that they don't give you?
Got a house you are buying? You take the interest write off? How about running a business. You run a business? Take your business write offs? Children? Take your child deuction?

I get so fuking tired of hearing about all the things the government is supposedly giving me.
When it is the exact same thing given YOU. Or are you gonna say you don't take those write offs on your income taxes? If that's the case, well stupid rethug comes to mind.

Every other economic demographic was not in the hands of Obama.. no matter the racial or sexual factor

Did the radical left ever figure out why the democrats lost the congressional majority in a stunning landslide two years ago and republicans kept the majority through the Obama re-election? You almost gotta laugh about a radical leftie's opinion about conservative republicans.
Stunning landslide? Really? Is that what you call it? And what did it get you exactly?

It's mostly messaging. For one, the republicans have most of the media against them, that will be looking to characterize them in the worst light possible. They need to be diligent in what they say, when they say it and how they say it. Edit to add: there's too much black and white in their message. You either agree you you're looking for a handout. Acknowledge the vast gray area.

Second, change the tone of the message. There's a lot of negatives in their message. They're a glass half empty kind of crowd right now. There's a tone that "fuck everyone that won't vote for us." You might think that the democrats think "fuck the working people of the nation, those that make some money" and maybe that's true but it doesn't come across that way to a lot of people. Instead of demonizing people, the republican party should be trying to convince them to see things their way and try to relate to them.

Lastly, a combination of dumbing things down a little bit, explaining things and appealing more to emotion. Much of the electorate isn't highly educated in economics and don't understand the workings of the world. They need to explain the reasoning behind their positions more than just shouting the positions over and over.

Much more than 1/2 the women (the majority in this country) voted against the GOP. The minorities overwhelmingly voted against the GOP status quo. White males make up about 1/3d of the electorate now. The economic, race, and sex numeric factors are against the GOP.

As long as the GOP remains in denial of these factors, the GOP will not win nationally.

By 2024 at the very latest but probably in 2020, Texas will swing blue and the House will forever go Democratic if the GOP does not meet the changing demographics of America.

The math is simple.

Divide the electorate into 3 parts. Right, center, left.

Conservatives want the Republican party to be a party of the right. Conservatives hate centrists.

Democrats want a center/left party. Liberals do not hate centrists.

The more conservatives win the above argument, the more the GOP is the party of the Right,

and the Democrats are the party of the Center/Left.

That math is devastating for the Republican party.

The government is "giving" stuff to everyone. That's how politicians buy their re-elections. The amusing thing is that they are giving away things and essentially charging the cost to a credit card with our names on it and so many misguided Americans think they are getting it for free. There really is no free lunch and the bill for this "feast" is going to come due. Your tab is now up over $50,000 dollars and growing larger every day this insanity continues.

Well that's not true, but thanks for entertaining us.

The truth is America is more conservative than it is liberal...but the Democrats have done a great job (with help from a compliant main stream media) of painting the GOP as a party of greedy white wealthy guys who hate everyone but themselves...and themselves as the "champions" of everyone else. But when you cut through all the hyperbole it really isn't the case. Fiscal sanity isn't "evil"...it's prudent.

The radical ultra right and the libertarians make up no more than 15 to 18% of the country's voters. That is not mainstream, that is fringe. If the GOP does not emasculate the fringe, the fringe will emasculate the Party. The Party alignment today prohibits any national victories.

If the GOP were even CLOSE to as radically right as you progressives would have us believe, Jake...why did they just nominate John McCain and Mitt Romney in the past two Presidential races? Both are moderates.

What the GOP has to do is not allow the political dialog to be steered by the main stream media to things such as abortion and keep it squarely on the growing deficit crisis. The Democrats haven't done a thing to get that under control and the GOP needs to keep pounding the severity of the problem into the heads of a rather uninformed populace.
