Why does NPR exist? Public funded!? Good bye

So "socialism" is your latest word from the propagandists. Socialism has nothing to do with anything at this point. When are you right-wing republicans going to publicly disown white supremacists and fundie trash cults?

Why not stop giving taxpayers' money to these cults, glorifying them, and appointing them to posts in government? The executive-branch departments have quietly changed regulations to allow discrimination against LGBT Americans and to make it difficult for female Americans to exercise their right to choice in their reproductive lives. Try explaining this.

Socialism has nothing to do with anything at this point? May I introduce Socialists Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren?

What is a "fundie trash cult"?

When did failed former President Barack Hussein Obama "disown" his church of 20 years or the New Black Panthers?

What government entity is giving money to White Supremacists? Who is a white supremacist appointed to a government post?

How about members of the KKK?

As for your childish attack on pro-life citizens, you need to catch up.

By the numbers: The poll found Americans are now as likely to identify as pro-life (47%) as they are pro-choice (47%). Last month, a similar Marist survey found that Americans were more likely to identify as pro-choice than pro-life 55% to 38%, a 17-point gap.
  • The survey also found that 80% of Americans support abortion being limited to the first three months of pregnancy, an increase of 5 percentage points since last month's Marist poll.

I support NPR with my donations and often listen to them. PBS? Less so but to each their own. Having said that, I think it is time that they both stood up on their own two feet. They aren't start ups anymore and the media environment is far more diverse now than it was when they were started.

If you actually wanted to save money you'd want to ban corporate subsidies which contribute zero to the economy.

Trump questions why NPR exists after Pompeo clashes with reporter

Why is that crap!? Anyone listen? I hear trump is questioning it’s existence.
NPR gets very little government funding these days. They are publicly funded by their listeners and alumni.
Markle why is this funny.

It's the truth.

Is the truth funny to you?

Because they don't get "very little government funding". As I showed in another post, they get a LOT of taxpayer money.

IF it was true, that they got only 2% of their resources from the government, they would never miss it if it was gone. IF they're as popular as some claim, they can easily compete with other stations and make a profit.

If private organizations want to give them grants, good for them, if the public wants to make donations, go for it, if they want MY hard-earned dollars to preach against everything I believe, go fish!

Works for me, I assume you mean that there would be no further subsidies for the solar industry, green industry, electric cars, etc, etc, right?

I'm actually of the... shocking to myself... opinion that NPR is actually the best, most balanced news outlet there is in the US.

It's still not as good as Sky News, or the BBC, but it is certainly better than the mainstream media.

If we could somehow get more private funding for NPR, and have the cost balanced between government and private... I think I'd like to keep NPR.

The reason for this is rather simple.... NPR has to more balanced, because if they piss off the Republicans, they would have their funding cut.

It's the same reason the BBC has a more balanced coverage. If they had a clear bias, the moment the opposition gained power in the UK government, they would end up cut.

So....

They should have ZERO federal funding, same with PBS. If they can't make it on their own merits, then they should fail.

I used to agree with PBS. With all these channels now providing educational content ....who needs them?

We have History Channel, Travel, tru TV, Discovery, The Learning Channel

What do they give us? Ghost Busters, Ancient Aliens, Oak Island, Pawn Shops

PBS still provides educational and cultural content

True, those channels are crappy. Doesn't change my mind that no radio/television stations should be federally funded. If they are that good, then they can make it without extra funds. We have a lot of other things we could spend that money on that are more important than trying to validate some people's views on issues.
The thing is....they don’t.

They start with a grand scheme of providing cultural and educational content and we end up watching 600 lb people, dwarves, hoarders and chasing conspiracy theories. Lowest common denominator always wins out in the end

I’ll take PBS. After over 50 years, they haven’t sold out.

Fine, don't use cable or any other service and you pay for NPR and/or PBS. Write as big a check as you like! Go for it!

If you want to ban actual subsidies, I'm all for it.

However, if you want to ban tax deductions (which you falsely claim are subsidies)... ok, but all deductions have to go. All tax deductions. And you need to make a constitutional amendment that politicians can not write in new deductions.

And understand, this means that all your left-wing causes are going to die. Eco-freak groups, Sierra Club, National Parks Assocations, all are going to disappear, or be entirely marginalized. Education, Ivy League schools, all those NEA groups... all going to die off. All your special interest groups, and green energy groups, and social justice wartards.... all are going to be cut off from the tax deductions, and die off.

What goes around, comes around. You can not say these deductions are bad, and these deductions are good. I like the subsidies for groups I like, and I hate the subsidies for groups I hate.

You don't get to play that game.

It's all or nothing. You choose. But whatever rule you put in place on others, will be the rule put in place on you.

Did you forget to include churches in your list or was that a conscious decision.

Agreed. Nation Endowment of the Farts too.

Why do Trumpsters hate the arts?
I don't hate the arts I just don't believe in pissing away public funds on unnecessary bullshit. Same thing for a lot of shit like the national cathedral, most military bands etc.
Tax money should only be spent on things of necessity and nothing more.

No, I mean absolutely everyone everywhere, would stop getting deductions. Everyone. Absolutely everyone.

If you are going to say that a tax deduction, is a government subsidy, then that means zero tax deductions by anyone anywhere in the entire country for anything.

All or nothing.

By the way, while the lack of a tax deduction would destroy charitable giving, and wipe out Ivy League schools, and left-wing groups....

They actually wouldn't harm the church. People do not give to their church, to get a tax deduction. I was tithing to my church, when I was working at McDonald's as a part time employee, for minimum wage, at $4.25 an hour. Obviously there was no tax benefit to me, to give 10% of my, I believe 20 hours a week check.

We give to church, because we are Christians. And I don't mean that no one will reduce giving, I'm sure some people somewhere will, but for most real Christian believers, giving to charity, is charity, but giving to the church, is more part of our faith.

I would honestly give the exact same amount to my church, if you put a tax on church giving.

So while eliminating deductions would virtually destroy many charitable groups, and left-wing groups... it might slightly harm the church, but for the most part the church will be fine.

I do write a huge check

Obviously some here think PBS and NPR are 'non-profits'. That's false; the producers and their companies make all kinds of money off of those shows and air time. Bill Moyers got filthy rich, made hundreds of millions of dollars off of PBS, and so do others. They don't need Federal subsidies or tax exempt status; the Democratic Party can pay for its own election propaganda outlets out of its own budgets.

The freak thinks art would not exist if the government didn’t use your money to fund it.

PBS is the most neutral news organization out there

I disagree. I think there is public value there. Otherwise life would be like the old Soviet concrete blocks of apartments, sans beauty, sans art.

How do you figure? A bit of hyperbole there. Art still exists without federal funding.

Art never existed until 1913 when income taxes started!
