Who is the greatest American actor?

All good. I'm not in here to judge. It's a thread about Hollywood, not politics. I've had liberal friends in the past. We didn't always agree but most of the time it wasnt a huge deal. I'm only moderately conservative. Kind of why my screen name is what it is. I'm not really left or right.
Back to the thread, my favorite John Wayne movie was The Quiet Man.

Humphrey Bogart

Most of the actors mentioned above are of a single type: they play a basic role in every film, varying it slightly according to the scenario, setting, and script. Being an actor, to my mind, is being able to portray a wide variety of characters convincingly.

A few names come to mind. Marlon Brando. Johnny Depp. Dustin Hoffman.

Linda Hunt? Meryl Streep? Charlize Theron?
