What "rights" do human beings have and who gave them out?

Does the constitution define the rights of US citizens?

Do they come from God?

Do they come from some congress or king?

Does every human being have the right to : food, air, water, sex, clothing, housing, free speech, gun ownership, a job, a car, air conditioning, heat, hot water, soap, booze, land,
pets, hair coloring, nail salons, shoes, ------------

just curious what the various posters have to say about the rights of humans and where they come from.

one lesbian poster used the term "fundamental rights" what does that mean?

Maybe skeptical lefties need it written on facebook. We used to say stone but the times are changing. Anyway we assume that human beings have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness because a about 250 years ago couple of geniuses risked their lives and fortunes to create a Country that nobody on the globe ever heard of. For the first time in human history a Country would be governed by the consent of the people. It's too bad union based education system teaches revolution instead of appreciation for the freedom we have but that's the chance the Founding Fathers took.

Really? I think uneducated righties need to learn some history by looking up the word "demokratia".
And then get back to us.

There is only one right, and that is the right to private property. All other rights flow from this. It derives from the notion that only one individual can inhabit a single space and branches out from there.

We are born with certain fundamental rights....among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.....Locke said property...other rights have been clarified over time...such as the right to procreate...the right to marry...the right to associate with whom we want to...the right to bear arms...the rights of free speech, press, religion, petition.....etc.

Has nothing to do with this discussion.

Really? Maybe you should look up the word, too. The founding fathers did not invent democracy.

The founders rejected a democracy in favor of a representative republic. A democracy is nothing but mob rule, as in who ever has the biggest mob, rules.

Lets continue. Where do human rights come from?

God
government
kings
nature
other humans
clergy
legislatures

Where do our US rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness come from?

what do the words "endowed by their creator" mean?

My answer was contained in the above post. There is no such thing as a 'right' - until we define it.

"Core morality tells us that people have a right to what they earn by their own efforts freely exercised. It is this part of core morality that Ayn Rand objectivists, libertarians, and other right wingers tap into when they insist that taxation is slavery... The trouble with such arguments is that nothing is earned, nothing is deserved. Even if there really were moral rights to the fruit of our freely exercised abilities and talents, these talents and abilities are never freely acquired or exercised. Just as your innate and acquired intelligence and abilities are unearned, so also are your ambitions, along with the discipline, the willingness to train, and other traits that have to be combined with your talents and abilities to produce anything worthwhile at all.... We don't earn our inborn (excuse the expression "God given") talents and abilities. We had nothing to do with whether these traits were conferred on us or not. Similarly, we didn't earn the acquired character traits needed to convert these talents into achievements. They, too, were the result of deterministic processes (genetic and cultural) that were set in motion long before we were born. That is what excludes the possibility that we earned or deserve them. We were just lucky to have the combination of hardwired abilities and learned ambitions that resulted in the world beating a path to our door....No one ever earned or deserved the traits that resulted in the inequalities we enjoy - greater income and wealth, better health and longer life, admiration and social distinction, comfort, and leisure. Therefore, no one, including us, has a moral right to those inequalities. Core morality may permit unearned inequalities, but it is certainly not going to require them without some further moral reason to do so." Alex Rosenberg 'The Atheist's Guide to Reality'

well ok, you know how to cut and paste, congratulations.

But, like all liberals you ignore the central question. What "rights" do all human beings have and where do they come from?

some say we have a "right" to gay marriage, where does that right come from?

the right to food, shelter, clothing, voting, etc, where do those rights come from?

how about the "right' to a college education? the "right" to vote without proving who you are?

liberals continually rant and rave about "rights" but not one of them can ever answer the basic question of why they believe that those rights exist.

There is only one right, and that is the right to private property. All other rights flow from this. It derives from the notion that only one individual can inhabit a single space and branches out from there.

And that private property begins with self ownership.

Sounds like Russian translation of democracy. Are you trying to make a case for the Czars or Stalin's people's paradise?
