CDZ What is Capitalism

At economic system that requires government regulation to keep it capitalistic, if not it can easily will slide into another economic system.

Untrue. Prior to capitalism there was no middle class. There were the poor and the elite. The middle class owes its very existence to capitalism.
There is no middle class. Thats just a label they made up to convince you to keep working and buying their products. Its all part of the keeping up with the Jones mentality. if you are not wealthy then you are poor. If you dont believe me try paying for your home without a job.

What? You have no will of your own? You are not capable of saying "I don't need that new TV?" Just wondering when personal responsibility kicks in or are all of you just infants with no will of your own?
My will isnt the issue. The issue is if a supposed middle class person is unable to produce income then they will see how quickly they are really just a better off poor person. True wealth is the ability to own income producing assets without having to work.

No, you are claiming that capitalism makes you do things. That is patently ridiculous. The "keeping up with the Jones's" mentality is an individuals decision. It has nothing to do with capitalism. Put simply, if you don't like a company, don't buy their product and they will very quickly go out of business.

That's the beauty of capitalism. Socialism, on the other hand, entrenches single companies in a product so that no matter how bad a product they produce you simply have no other option. Socialism fails at every test because eventually the producers get tired of supporting a bunch of lazy louts and either leave to go produce where their work is valued, or they simply stop working and let the country collapse, as it invariably does.
Capitalism does make the masses do things. Do you think those commercials that bombard you on every type of media are public service announcements or an attempt to get into your subconscious in order to generate a desire for their products? You can pretend science hasnt proven that constant repetition doesnt have an effect but there is this industry called the marketing industry that stands as proof you are being naive or in denial.

I dont get why you think socialism would make the idea of a better mousetrap something no one would aspire to. The earliest forms of governments/economies were socialism. That didnt stop them from inventing better methods of doing things.

Dude, you are truly funny. Commercials are there to entice you to buy their products. They are not mind control that FORCE you to do anything.

Indeed, communism put the first man into space.

Yes, and it was capitalism that then crushed them in the space race and put men on the Moon in under a decade. Something the communists were never able to accomplish.

Thanks for pointing that out.

As far as I can tell, it is a political system in which highly gifted commoners can, with a lot of hard work, AND a bit of luck, attain equality before the law with those who were born into privilege.

Did I forget anything essential?

I mean sure, some may want to invoke whimsical terms like "free market" and "merit based," but lets try to stick with what has actually ever existed in reality.

There is nothing about luck in Capitalism - or any other political social economic form of organization. Unless, of course, you clearly comprehend every single political social economic organizational form and how each relates to the other. Then you may in fact also be granted luck to understand what you are talking about and do right in its name and function.

You have not provided a single essentiality as all the words and concepts you shared are misconstrued and misdirecting to people who would actually appreciate to know the answer to your question. The question itself loses its worth for the introduction you have placed as a starting point.

All that being written, do you really want to know? I am willing to educate you and your friends here if that is also what you intented with initiating this thread.
Your very first sentence stands as undeniable proof you are not qualified to educate anyone anyone on capitalism. Of course luck is a large component of capitalism. You have to be at the correct moment in time for an opportunity to present itself and you have to be informed enough to even see the opportunity. Some people are gifted enough to make their own luck but they are very few and far between.

Yes thats what I said earlier. Commercials are there to help convince you to buy things. Yes it is a form of mind control and of course it cant force you to do anything. I never made that claim. Thats something you just made up. Its suggestion and anyone with an understanding of the human mind knows how powerful it is.

Nevertheless it doesnt invalidate my post. You claim that socialism fails at every level. Thats as simplistic as saying that capitalism is the only successful system.

Capitalism is the only system that allows any Tom, Dick, or Harriet to succeed based entirely on merit. Socialism entrenches society into specific classes and there you remain for eternity. So, yes. Capitalism is the only successful system if you are not of the elite. If you are an elitist you fight like hell to eliminate capitalism because you don't want competition from the peons.

The Soviet Union was able to use technology that the Germans had created to put their man in space. Technology developed by some of the best minds on the planet at the time. And they used that technology to drop bombs on London when they could no longer get airplanes to survive the trip. The Soviets stole that technology and then they stagnated. Socialism doesn't reward success, and in fact beats out personal initiative which is why the USA was able to first catch up, and then surpass the Soviet Union.

No need to get angry and start personal attacks. No they are not easy to ignore. Its part of being socialized as in every society. You set standards for what wealth looks like and most humans strive to appear wealthy. Capitalism takes advantage of that scientifically documented fact no matter how hard you may argue that you are immune to it.

You have to be at the correct moment in time for an opportunity to present itself and you have to be informed enough to even see the opportunity. Some people are gifted enough to make their own luck but they are very few and far between.

So where did you get educated for that elitist perspective on Capitalism? Did you make it up yourself? Everyone is gifted with life to begin with, and with the gift of life comes the gift of perception, and with the gift of perception the gift of learning and so forth into many more contributing political social economic and financial gifts that humans share by their own very nature. Again, to me it seems you do not really comprehend what luck is at all and I will be glad to explain it to you if you decide to comprehend Capitalism first. To say that some people are able to "make" their own luck is to completely deprive the word of its original significance, as there is also a fundamental connotation of conceptual chance to the integral and generally providing concept of luck.

How about true Capitalism before true luck? You even might discover you don't need luck at all.

Where am I angry? I merely stated a fact. Yes indeed there are a small number of people who have no willpower. If it is bad enough they are made Wards of the State. Most people with lack of willpower will become addicted to something. Human kind is naturally addictive IMO. Whether it is sugar or heroin everyone is addicted to something.

But claiming that commercials over power your will power and force you to buy things? Get real dude. That's just silly.

No the number is not small. Come on. You know that doesnt even make sense. If the number was small the companies wouldnt invest in marketing.

Again I never claimed commercials over come your will power but keep dropping deflections. I'm used to people doing that when they cant support their argument.

Marketing is about information. Why should I buy a Chevy instead of a Ford? That's what marketing is for. What you are describing is cultural. It has nothing to do with marketing. Marketing can only affect that which already exists.

People who can't come up with a cogent answer frequently resort to laughing emojies to cover their inability. Just sayin...

Ok West. If you want to pretend information is the extent of marketing I dont really know what to say other than you need to read some books and case studies on marketing. The main point of marketing is to separate you from your money. If there were no laws in place to stop them they would claim you will live forever if you drove a Buick.

Only the weak minded buy because of an advertisement

But then again politicians have used marketing psychology to sell the sheep on the idea that government actually has their best interests at heart

Conclusion most people are weak minded sheep

And anyone with even the slightest bit of a brain can just as easily ignore them. I have for over 60 years. Why can't you?
No need to get angry and start personal attacks. No they are not easy to ignore. Its part of being socialized as in every society. You set standards for what wealth looks like and most humans strive to appear wealthy. Capitalism takes advantage of that scientifically documented fact no matter how hard you may argue that you are immune to it.

Of course you were angry. Thats why you claimed I didnt have any will power even though I never said that. Its ok.

I use them to laugh at people that make ridiculous claims and deflect using personal attacks. Just sayin....
