No it's the actual records written at the time by the Romans.

If AveJoe is correct then these "stories" are at best 3-4 generations old when first documented. I'm sure NOTHING was lost in the accuracy over 70-150 years from some goat herders... that were known for thier note taking and documentation protection skills. Possibly some goat poop stains on the originals?
