Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl has told people treating him at a U.S. military medical facility in Germany that he was tortured, beaten and held in a cage by his Taliban captors in Afghanistan after he tried to escape on at least two occasions, a senior U.S. official said Sunday.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss what Bergdahl has revealed about the conditions of his captivity.

A senior Defense official said Bergdahl's "reintegration process" will include "time for him to tell his story, decompress, and to reconnect with his family through telephone calls and video conferences."

"We really don't know why he left the base and under what circumstances," Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby said Monday. Details of that will come out, he said, adding that the Army has never classified Bergdahl as a deserter...



"We're going to do all we can to get you back," he said. "That's an obligation that we have, all the people that put on this uniform."

Remember when McCrazy quit his campaign to solve the financial melt down? Grand stand much? Everybody in the room was rolling their eyes and everything. McCain put his campaign on hold so he could go back to doing the job he was elected to do AND paid to do at a crucial time in our history.

And I am not surprised. Obama does not believe in allowing ANYTHING to slow his campaign up.

Except that McCain DID NOT suspend his campaign, he simply blew off appearing on Letterman's show. He did do other tv shows instead.

Both McCain and Obama went to DC AT THE SAME TIME to work on the bail out package.

The difference being that McCain's comrades don't say he was a deserter.

Maybe not..but many had plenty to say about McCain himself.

He lost several aircraft including one he was sitting in when a missile went off on the deck of the Forrestral. That cost the lives of 134 people.

Had his father not been an admiral, he would have probably been washed up as a pilot.

A missile goes off on the deck of the Forrestal and you are blaming him for losing the plane?

And missiles being fired at one's aircraft have to count for something don't you think?

The fourth plane McCain lost was of course the Skyhawk shot down over North Vietnam on Oct. 26, 1967.

The previously mentioned official citation describes 15 enemy surface-to-air missiles fired at the attacking U.S. planes and "extremely heavy and accurate antiaircraft fire."

Far from blaming McCain for the loss of his plane, the Navy awarded him, in addition to the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Silver Star for his "conspicuous gallantry" while imprisoned by the North Vietnamese for the nearly five-and-a-half years that followed. Shortly after his release he was promoted again, to full commander.

We have updated it to include additional details of the 1967 Forrestal disaster from official documents, which differ from McCain's own, widely accepted recollection.

We have also included McCain's admission of "daredevil clowning" in an accident that did not result in loss of his plane.

We have had numerous questions about this widely circulated claim. Some say McCain "lost" five planes, others that he "crashed" five planes. All offer this alleged "fact" as evidence that he was a bad pilot. All are incorrect.

McCain did lose two Navy aircraft while piloting them. One crash was found to be be McCain's fault, the other due to an engine failure of undetermined cause..

A third was destroyed on the deck of the carrier USS Forrestal when a missile fired accidentally from another plane hit either the plane next to McCain's or, less likely, his own aircraft, triggering a disastrous fire that killed 134 sailors and nearly killed McCain.

A fourth plane was lost when he was shot down over North Vietnam on a bombing mission over Hanoi.

A fifth alleged "crash" turns out to be a misinterpretation of a flight accident that did not result in the loss of the aircraft. McCain admitted to causing that incident through "daredevil clowning" but returned safely.
