Virginia and New Jersey Bellwether Elections

As voters near the November 2009 elections, current polling shows a comfortable leads for both candidates for governor of those respective states.

Republican Bob McDonnel has a 12 point lead over Democrat rival Creigh Deeds - despite recent negative press over a thesis McDonnel wrote 20 years ago that touched on such divisive social issues as homosexuality and feminism. Virginia voters appear to be shrugging over the thesis controversy, with McDonnel actually increasing his lead over Deeds since the story broke.

In New Jersey, while the race for governor there so far remains less controversial than Virginia, it is no less important. Republican candidate Chris Christie, who is as conservative a candidate for the New Jersey governor's mansion in some time, enjoys a 6.5% lead over his Democrat opponent an current New Jersey governor and former Goldman Sachs CEO Jon Corzine.

If both of these gubernatorial races go to Republicans, they could very well signal the decisive shift back to conservative values some are calling for to come in the 2010 midterm elections...

In Jersey they have a plan.

If Corzine is way behind, switch candidates.

Let's see, Lautenberg is busy, how about ...Bill Clinton?

Lautenberg was also "busy" when Torricelli torched himself -- busily RETIRED. Didn't deter him from clearing his calendar and getting his ass where he was told to, now did it? 'Course his ass is even older now, so it does move a tad slower.

Chris Christie is as much of a conservative as Keith Olbermann is. Just because he's a Republican, doesn't mean he's a conservative.

The only reason why in NJ the Republican is ahead is because Corzine is a former GS CEO and those are the very same people we bailed out last year.

Besides, people in NJ are stupid. They haven't had a full term governor in decades. Neither state are red states or purple states. Both states are solidly blue. NJ does not have a Senator up for election in 2010, and Deleware will elect Biden's son when he returns from Iraq.

At least someone gets it. NJ HATES its Governors and hates Corzine more than most. Its got nothing to do with a conservative shift in NJ. If that were the case, ultra-conservative Steve Lonnegan would have beaten Chris Christie in the republican primary.

NJ is a blue state and corrupt to the bone. We go through governors like Kleenex. To try to paint this as an indicator of a conservative shift nationwide is a reach

In NJ it is far from bellwether

Corzine is universally disliked. It has nothing to do with the national party

You are right. I saw a sign recently that said "Bring Back the Gay Guy". The sentiment is ANYONE but Corzine.

But if anyone wants to see far left looniness on steroids, check out NJ. Obama thinks NJ can be a model for the entire country. We are broke.

I doubt if anyone wants to model after NJ. Corrupt to the bone.

NJ Politics at the Governor level always swings from one party to the other. This will just continue the trend

You make little sense.

Some in here say you hate Jews. Is that true?

Try reading comprehension 101 at your local community college then come back here you piece of shit.

Can't imagine Jersey not going democrat.
no kidding
VA going red, no big deal
NJ, HUGE

Uh, no.

Their last Republican governor was in 2001, Christine Todd Whitman. She was elected in 1994 and lasted until 2001 when she was tapped to be head of the EPA by Bush.

From 1982 - 1990, Thomas Kean was governor of NJ... he was Republican.

Several Republicans have been governor of NJ, just as several Republicans have been mayor of NYC in the past few decades.

Party affiliation is irrelevant. Their personal stance on issues is more of a big deal.

8 governors in the past 10 years. Congratulations on a new world record!

NY is about to do the same thing next year. David Patterson is HORRIBLE. And by horrible I mean a recent poll showed Attorney General Andrew Como beating David Patterson 83% - 17%. Right now I think Al Sharpton has a better chance of being governor than David Patterson does in 2011. Honestly, I have no idea why Spitzer resigned. He got caught with a prostitute. SO WHAT? That's between him and his family. Yes, it's slightly illegal, but on the scale of how terrible this crime is between 1-10 it's a 0. Spitzer was cleared of all charges and he and his wife are still together.

It already holds the biggest world record -- corruption. You don't suppose THAT has had anything to do with the above record, do you?

The made up controversy by the DNC and Deeds backfired as I stated it would. This I believe will also be representative of other races in Nov. Here it is future, when the DNC puts out any negative ad it will do the DNC a lot of harm.

To try to paint a Chris Christie win in NJ as a national shift to the right is an insult

Republicans in NJ have run conservatives against Democratic candidates in the last four major Senate or Governors election. The conservative candidates were humiliated.
This time the republicans put conservative Steve Lonnegan to run against moderate Chris Christie. They finally got it right and rejected the conservative candidate because they knew he would be humiliated in the general election.
Christie will probably win in November, but not because he is a conservative

I find it hard to believe that anyone would go out and vote for a Socialist Democrat at this point. Just take a close look around this country and you will quickly see that every State controlled by Socialist Democrats has become a Third World Nightmare. Just a little research will show this pretty clearly. Basically you would have to be deranged to vote for more Socialist Democrats at this point.

Just answer the question - are you an anti-Semite? You have already indicated you are a 9-11 truther - please share with us if you are also an anti-Semite.

Thank you!

Let's see, Lautenberg is busy, how about ...Bill Clinton?

Here's my favorite scenario: Lautenberg suddenly retires, Corzine appoints himself to Lautenberg's Senate seat, and Cory Booker runs for Governor.
It's getting a little late for that, though.

Unfortunately New Jersey is already a Third World H*ll-Hole at this point. The Socialist Democrats destroyed that once great state a long time ago. No one can save them at this point. I just don't see how anyone could rush out there and vote for a Socialist Democrat. Look at all the States they control. Every one of them has become a Third World Nightmare. But hey, good luck New Jersey because God knows you're gonna need it.

The Democrats have destroyed Bruce's Jersey.

Some day the Boss might even admit that fact...
