UN Secretary General envoy for humanitarian affairs, Abdullah Al Matouq has expressed UN satisfaction over cooperation of the Sudanese government in the humanitarian field, praising the measures taken by the government in this regard.

Speaking to reporters yesterday following a meeting with the President of the Republic, he said Sudan suffered a great deal because of the organizations that had misunderstood its humanitarian stances.

He lauded the treatment by Sudan of the refugees from Southern Sudan as its own citizens.

Meanwhile, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Antonio Guterres, has appreciated the cooperation of the Sudanese government with refugees from South Sudan and their treatment as Sudanese citizens, calling on other countries to follow suit.

Abdulla and Guterres visited Tuesday camps housing refugees from South Sudan and held a lengthy meeting with the State government to discuss status of refugees and their needs.

Al Matouq called on the countries of the world to support Sudan for hosting 180,000 refugees from South Sudan, adding that his visit to the Sudan aims to observe the humanitarian situation in the country and to strengthen relations between the government and international organizations.

He appreciated President Al Bashirs directive that the southern Sudan citizens fleeing war in South Sudan be treated as Sudanese citizens.
The two envoys made strong commitment to use international forums to call for support to Sudan.

The world should recognize that the Sudanese not only opened their borders to refugees but also their doors and hearts to the citizens fleeing war in South Sudan, the two envoys said.

It's hard to accept any praise for the Sudanese government until such time as they cooperate with the ICC and hand over their suspected war criminals.
