Texas Governor Greg Abbott to sanctuary cities: “You are going to comply with the law.”

'Texas is taking a hard stance on illegal immigration, and one of the measures the state is taking is to make sure sanctuary cities hurt so badly they stop harboring those who come here unlawfully.

“I’m being abundantly clear,” said Abbot. “I don’t care what jurisdiction you’re at in the state of Texas. You are going to comply with the law.”

“I’ve already issued a governor’s order cutting off funding from the governor’s office that was going to some of these jurisdictions,” continued Abbott. “But secondly, we’re going to pass a ban on sanctuary cities in the state of Texas that will put real teeth in this, compelling local officials to apply the law of the United States of America.”

 :thewave:

When the 'bad parent' spoils the kids it's always more painful trying to break the little bastards of the bad habits / ways and get them to become disciplined than it would have been to teach them from the very start.

Tx Governor Abbot is bringing the 'pain'. :p

it is going to be far easier for a State government to force compliance on local governments than for the feds to push around the States. In most State's constitutions sovereignty flows up from the people to the State, then back down from the State to the local divisions of government. The precise concepts of "home rule" that allows local governments power over various functions are usually we defined, as is the State's overall authority on certain matters.

IMO, it will be easier for the States and Feds to work together.

Texas can go back to Mexico.

Why?

Are you writing that because Clinton lost in Texas?

I live in Texas and outside Houston, and will tell you Texas is a lot better than California from cost of living to the people, but please tell me how you believe Texas should go back to Mexico and if you really believe that then what about California, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico?
