You are too trusting. Trump had the consequences of withdrawing from Syria described to him several times. Most notably, when Gen. Mattis resigned over this matter, and it wasn't the first time he was walked through the issue. He did it anyway, immediately after a phone call with Erdogan.

Trump is all about himself, and his bottom line. Since there is no good reason to withdraw a 1000 troops keeping the region at least semi-stable at an extremely low cost, there has to be another reason that tilted the balance, some Trumpish self-interest that won the day. What could that be?
