Public relations and publicity mean a lot to Donald Trump. More power to him for being a smart marketer for his businesses.
But he is not a serous candidate for President. Everyone knows that.
YOu know what, though, when one party is running a FAILED president and the other one forces down a weird Mormon Robot that most of the party doesn't really want, you kind of open yourself to the "not serious candidate".
Let's look at Ross Perot. Man was certifiably nuts. But he also shook up the status quo and got issues discussed that should have been discussed and weren't.
So when you have a debate that will be Romney and Obama discussing how to package socialism and not call it socialism, you have Trump as the skunk in the room.
You work off of failed assumptions.
Keep telling yourself that. If Obama wins, it will because of the failure of the GOP to find a good candidate, not because of his brilliance. If it was purely a vote on his performance, he'd lose. 50%+ disapprove of his performance.
To put it in perspective, in 2004, Bush-43 had a 53% approval rating. 93% of those who approved of him voted for him. 95% of those who disapproved of him voted for Kerry. He won by 51-49% of the vote. You guys can whine about "Swiftboating" all day and I am sure you will for years, but the fact is, at the end of the day, it was a referendum on the incumbant.
Obama's approval rating is averaging 43.4% on RCP. He's failed.
Trump running would actually give him a chance.
