Trump to Launch 3rd Party bid?

Public relations and publicity mean a lot to Donald Trump. More power to him for being a smart marketer for his businesses.
But he is not a serous candidate for President. Everyone knows that.

YOu know what, though, when one party is running a FAILED president and the other one forces down a weird Mormon Robot that most of the party doesn't really want, you kind of open yourself to the "not serious candidate".

Let's look at Ross Perot. Man was certifiably nuts. But he also shook up the status quo and got issues discussed that should have been discussed and weren't.

So when you have a debate that will be Romney and Obama discussing how to package socialism and not call it socialism, you have Trump as the skunk in the room.

You work off of failed assumptions.

Keep telling yourself that. If Obama wins, it will because of the failure of the GOP to find a good candidate, not because of his brilliance. If it was purely a vote on his performance, he'd lose. 50%+ disapprove of his performance.

To put it in perspective, in 2004, Bush-43 had a 53% approval rating. 93% of those who approved of him voted for him. 95% of those who disapproved of him voted for Kerry. He won by 51-49% of the vote. You guys can whine about "Swiftboating" all day and I am sure you will for years, but the fact is, at the end of the day, it was a referendum on the incumbant.

Obama's approval rating is averaging 43.4% on RCP. He's failed.

Trump running would actually give him a chance.

The door is thatway. Get the fuck out. You won't be missed.

Actually, I was thinking about throwing stupid people like you out...

Or at least regulating you to a useful function like cleaning streets.

I do not disdain and diparage Americans with offensive generalizations. YOU get the fuck out. You have proven yourself unworthy. Go find a nation and a people you can respect. Or not, I don't fucking care as long as you stop polluting my country with your bullshit.

Guy, you go through life being offended. I stopped caring about what offends you and from time to time, I just say stuff to you to watch you blow up because it's fucking hilarious.

But seriously. Most Americans aren't very bright. We elected Obama after all. And before that we elected Bush. We aren't covering ourselves in glory here.

Trump Threatens to Spend Millions on a Presidential Run - Washington Wire - WSJ

“He’s prepared to finance an independent run for president if he’s not satisfied with the Republican nominee,” says the real estate mogul’s right-hand man, Michael Cohen.

“I already mapped out everything that has to be done to be an effective candidate and what we’d have to do to get on the ballot on all 50 states,” Mr. Cohen says.

The Trump aide declined to elaborate on which GOP candidates would draw Mr. Trump’s ire, and a possible independent challenge. But he did hint that the billionaire wouldn’t run against Newt Gingrich. “He and Newt are close,” Mr. Cohen said.
hooooo-boy.

Then again, in a Obama vs. Romney contest, The Donald would take on a whole new luster.

I hope he does. It could only benefit Obama, as the only people who would vote for him would be Republicans. Go for it, Trump. :clap2:

Well, we run the government the same way Trump has run all of his corporations so maybe it is a fit. And pro wrasslin is an American favorite and Trump is a big fan.
Our government and Trump love junk bonds, long term debt, selectively fucking workers and wizards at cooking their books.
We have a winner!

I support the weird Mormon robot.
Perot built his business on a different style of marketing. He hired a pant load of Nam vets at EDS in the late 60s building a family of veterans, their extended families and the good will that goes with that. I believe the original offering when it went public was 10 bucks a share and went to 100 within 24 hours. During the Iranian hostage crisis some of his employees were held over there. So what does Ross do? He goes to his Nam vets and they go over there and rescue them.
Sort of. They could not find them but their intelligence knew there was going to be a way to extract them from the riots at the prison and that team did.
Do not see Donald Trump being able to pull that off, ever. But he could hire a good stable of ladies for a table dance rodeo.
After that thought maybe I do not support the weird Mormon robot.

Mitt Romney was faced with a crisis in July 1996. The 14-year-old daughter of Robert Gay, a partner in Romney's new venture capital firm, Bain Capital, had disappeared. As it turned out, she had attended a rave party in New York City and had become high on ecstasy. Three days later, her distraught father had no idea where she was.

Romney took immediate action. He closed down the entire firm and asked all 30 partners and employees to fly to New York to try to find Gay's daughter.

Romney set up a command center in a conference room at the LaGuardia Marriott just outside Manhattan. He hired a private detective firm to assist with the search and established a toll-free number for tips, coordinating the effort with the New York City Police Department, but he still wasn't satisfied. He raced through his Rolodex and called everyone Bain did business with in New York. He asked them to help his company find their friend's missing daughter.

The company's accounting firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and its law firm, put up posters on street poles with a photo of the missing teenager. Cashiers at Duane Reade Pharmacies, which was owned by Bain Capital, put fliers in the bag of each shopper.

Romney and others from the Bain Capital posse trudged through every part of New York, even scouring Central Park, and talked with everyone they could - prostitutes, drug addicts - anyone who may have seen her. They also made rounds at the local nightclubs at 3 a.m., hoping someone somewhere could identify her.

The same day the Romney team came to New York, the hunt made the evening news. Television cameras showed photos of the girl and video of investment banker types prowling through Central Park.

The next day, a teenage boy she was with phoned in. He asked if there was a reward. But the boy got nervous and quickly hung up. Luckily, the police traced the call to a home in Montville Township, N.J.

Gay's daughter, when they found her in the basement of that home, was shivering through detox after a massive dose of ecstasy. Doctors later told Gay that he was indeed fortunate - his daughter probably would not have lasted another day.

Mitt Romney's Got the Right Stuff for 2008

Oh, wait a minute, we ARE in real trouble now.
Obama is a nice guy, good family man and all but he CAN NOT read a balance sheet.
He has no business sense and believes $$$ grows on trees.
Please help us defeat the man. Just because he is black is not a good enough reason to support him.

I do not want a man leading us and the free world that has not and does not take a drink of liquor.
That in itself is UNAMERICAN.
I bet he does not eat apple pie either and farts in church.

Like who?

Someone who hasn't declared bankruptcy 47 times for starters ...

It would be funny to watch the illusion of Trump the world's premier business man be stripped away.

It must be nice to have a rich father who is willing to bail out your bad investments over and over again.

hey, you can be president 8 years with a rich father who is willing to bail out your bad investments over and over again

So Romney spent a lot of money saving a rich guy's daughter.

Would he have made the same effort if it was the daughter of some working slug at AmPad who just got his pink slip because they were trying to make the company look profitable before dumping the stock?

But look at the bright side if you were in a Trump administration:
Secretary of Defense: Linda Lovelace
Secretary of Commerce: Jenna Jameson
Chief of "Staff": Monica Lewinsky
Attorney General: David Vitter

Camp Donald would be the nearest Hooters.
All of our foreign policies would be solved and Arab oil would go to $39 a barrel.

I believe Joe's point is that a Trump 3rd party bid would take more votes BY FAR, away from Republicans as most ALL Democrats are voting for the communuty organizer.
And I agree 100% with Joe.
As of now I don't believe it is that much but that could change.

I don't supprt him because he's black, you fucking asshole. I support him because he's the right man for the job. The GOP is only in it for the rich guys. That much is painfully clear.

Actually, I didn't say that at all.

I think Trump could take Democratic votes.

When he was toying with the idea of running for the GOP nomination, a black guy I work with thought that was the coolest thing, he couldn't wait to vote for Trump. And I am pretty sure this guy voted for Obama the last time.

Right now, both parties are held in complete disregard. There are Democratic voters who would never vote for a Republican, but MIGHT vote for an independent if he is dynamic enough.

Or perhaps Mike Bloomberg could run...

Michael Bloomberg in 2012?—John Podhoretz - NYPOST.com

The thing is, right now you have all the things in place for a really meaningful third party run. Discontent with both parties and a sense that partisan politics in Washington is broken beyond repair, and just replacing one partisan with another won't fix it.

Unfortunately, the process of running for president is so expensive that really, only a "Crazy Billionaire" like Perot, Trump or BLoomberg could pull it off.

Now, practical matter, let's say the vote gets split three ways, and so do the electors. That just tosses the election into the House of Representatives, where you could have a situation where the Weird Mormon Robot comes in third place and a Republican Congress makes him president anyway.

I played a lot of football in the day Joe. One of my position coaches always said "we train to take the what ifs out of the equation".
Too many what ifs in your analysis.
All of a sudden I like the weird Mormon robot again.
At least I will hear "Warning Will Robinson" when he attempts to stick his hands in my pockets.
The current empty skull jockey occupying the White House has both hands and both feet there.

Politics are a lot more complicated than Football. Who knew in December 2007 we were about to get hit by the biggest economic calamity since the Great Depression?

I don't like Romney because, honestly, I think he's riding on a cloud of bullshit as much as Obama and Trump are. He made a lot of money in the 1990's looting companies when other people were building them. He rescued an Olympics that were only in trouble because his fellow LDS cultists stepped in it by bribing people. And he was a one-term governor who the people of his state couldn't wait to vote out.

Obama was no "crazy billionaire" and he ran and won President.

I was specifically referring to third party runs... I'm sorry if I didn't make that clear.

The guys in the established party, yeah, they can make a lot less. As long as they do what they are told. Which is the problem, we don't have 'leaders' of the parties, we have spokesmen. "This is the guy who is just non-offensive enough to win."

The Democrats would have been a LOT better off if Hillary had been the nominee in 2008. But she's abrasive and frankly, we are still just a bit too sexist as a country to elect a woman president just yet. But does anyone think for a moment that she'd be getting rolled the way the Community Organizer is? She'd have castrated Boehner by now.
