Last I recall, Bragg was trying to use an obscure state misdemeanor to tie to a federal election crime allegation as a way to be able to usurp federal jurisdiction in order to allow the state to prosecute a federal crime.

As in the rolling stone article I linked (and I believe there are others that concur with it) that braggs case is thin and even unwinnable.

Federal prosecutors have denied to take up the NDA case, but Bragg felt he could charge it by pinning it to a state misdemeanor in an attempt to upgrade that misdemeanor to a felony in the state of New York.
