We'll have to wait and see how the logistics unfold, but I think the military is saying they think the issue will be resolved by the end of the year. If they are needed longer, I'm sure they will stay longer.

They put up razor wire. Increased security at entry points. Moved in camps to house those awaiting adjudication. Exactly what they were supposed to do. Did you expect them to be standing posts with guns ten feet apart at the border?
The border is still protected by border patrol. Sheriffs and other law enforcement are close by if needed. If violence breaks out then it would be only a short amount of time to fly in military.
