trump Backs Down. Again.

It's the republican way. Continually push the limits of constitutionality and every now and then they win one. Democracy is being devoured a bite at a time.

You confuse Democracy with the Mobocracy that you desire.
Nope, it;s all a part of the phenomena where democracy must die if it stands in the way of conservative power.

Robert's reason was contrived. Every country in the freaking world keeps track of the number of citizens and aliens. We used to do it in the U.S. until president Hussein eliminated the long census form. What possible intellectual reason could you possibly have (outside of TDS) for refusing to keep track of people who are in the country illegally?

The long from was done away with in 2003, Obama was not POTUS then. It was replaced with the ACS which has been done ever since 2005, Obama was not POUTS then either.

This is like the 5th time you posted this same lie

Cheat? Why is knowing who has citizenship cheating? I would say keeping that info from Americans is cheating.

You're asking a question you know the answer to.

However to be polite, here's the answer to your question:

Dead man's hard drives the 'smoking gun' in census debate?

Now, however, a new wrinkle has emerged on the whole issue in an unusual way—via the hard drives of a deceased Republican strategist. Critics say the hard drives provide evidence for what they've been saying all along, that the citizenship question is a thinly disguised attempt to suppress minority voters and help white Republicans. The Justice Department says that's ridiculous. The Supreme Court has been informed of the new development, but whether it will play a role in justices' deliberations remains unclear. The details:

  • The strategist: The GOP's Thomas Hofeller is described by the New York Times as the "Michelangelo of gerrymandering, the architect of partisan political maps that cemented the party's dominance across the country." He died last August, and his estranged daughter, Stephanie Hofeller Lizon, recovered his hard drives.
  • His work: The hard drives, which his daughter gave to the advocacy group Common Cause, detail Hofeller's research in Texas. He concluded that if new voting maps were based not on population but more specifically on the number of American citizens of voting age, they "would be advantageous to Republicans and non-Hispanic whites." And they "would clearly be a disadvantage to the Democrats," he wrote, per the Washington Post.

In other words, like I said in my OP, cheat.
So illegals vote?

I'll play your game one more time. If you reply the same ridiculous way, I won't reply.

The citizenship question was put there to get an undercount of the population. Specifically in democratic held areas.

If there's an undercount of the population areas won't get the proper funding nor will they get the proper representation in congress. Thus losing seats that the state should have because of its population.

That will give an unfair benefit to republicans.

If you want to dispute that the proof of it was taken to the Supreme Court. At least one conservative judge on that court realized what trump and the republicans are trying to do and that wilber ross lied to the court about their reasons for that question.

Justice Roberts put in his ruling that the reasons the government were "contrived" which means he's saying he doesn't like being lied to.

You can play stupid all you want but all you're doing is making a fool of yourself.
I wonder if you even know you are lying about this?

If we ask the citizenship question, and everyone answers yes or no, the EVERYFUCKINGPERSON has been counted.

No undercount has occurred.

The question can then be used to ACCURATELY apportion representation in our government.
Why should illegals get representation?

Another loss? What's new.

What are the other losses?
So the 2020 census will be the same as 2010. The GOP had the House, Senate, and Presidency in 2016. So what's your point? Don't celebrate too much, like Hillary's fireworks....
It would have been nice having only citizens count for representation and Fed dollars, but I'm not sure that even if the citizenship question was in the 2020 census that Congress would be determined by "citizens" and not "persons". The good news is that gerrymandering is legal again, that should help until we can get the citizenship question on the 2030 census form.
What brought Hillary to the mix ? You dream about that woman too much.

The Supreme Court shot down Trump's attempt to place the citizenship question on the census. Chief Justice John Roberts said that Trump's reason was "contrived."

"Accepting contrived reasons would defeat the purpose of the enterprise." Contrived is judicial code for lying.

With the deadline passed coinciding with this decision from the Supremes, that is enough to stop any President with a half a brain. Of course, that excludes Trump.

“We are not backing down on our effort to determine the citizenship status of the United States population,” Trump declared, surprising both his DOJ and Commerce Department who had accepted the Court's decision and the printing began without the question.

"The DOJ legal team is forced to say that everything they have said so far is in error -- including the July 1st deadline -- and they still must come up with a legitimate reason, not a political reason, for the question to be included on the census.

"The dance is over. Trump just doesn't know it," I said Tuesday.

"Trump doesn't have the balls to challenge a ruling by the Supreme Court. This is just going to be another photo op, another phony show presented by Trump Productions." That was said today, hours before Trump's announcement.

I know this President well. He is all talk. He proved it again today with his photo op.

"President Donald Trump announced Thursday he is backing down from his effort to include a citizenship question on the 2020 census, and will instead take executive action that instructs the Commerce Department to obtain an estimate of U.S. citizenship through other means," ABC News reported.

"I am hereby ordering every department and agency in the federal government to provide the Department of Commerce with all requested records regarding the number of citizens and noncitizens in our country," Trump said in a Rose Garden announcement. "They must furnish all legally accessible records in their possession immediately. We will utilize these vast federal databases to gain a full, complete, and accurate count of the non-citizen population."

In other words, this is just another photo op, a show in which his followers can cheer mightily for a victory their hero lost.

The President has complete control over his departments. He routinely gives them orders because that is what he is supposed to do. However, today Trump Productions made a big show of a President doing what he normally does on a daily basis.

Moreover, the order appears merely to provide the plans the Census Bureau had announced last year, making it less a new policy than a means of covering Trump’s retreat.

Why all this? The first answer is, Trump likes a good show in which he has the starring role.

The second answer is, he lost a fight he never should have started. He was trying to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. His fans will believe it, but the vast majority of Americans will not.

It was just another photo op.

Sadly for you, you're mistaken. Think carefully about the matter. President Trump has been building the case for the American People about how the Democratic Party cares more about illegal immigrants than generational American Citizens. The whole citizenship census form debacle was but another campaign toward making said case, and to that end, President Trump won hugely. How? By causing the entire American Left to go berserk live on national television over a measure which could very well have revealed the true number of illegals inside our borders. Sorry, Charlie . . . the Democrats lose . . . again.

I am one of "that majority" who thinks he was fighting for us. He just got my vote.

Now he can't use the census for gerrymandering purposes.

Orange is the new gold.

Do you even know what gerrymandering is? Not your brightest post, Centrista!

By the way...the decision not to include the question from the census was made for logistics...there wasn't enough time to defeat the lawsuits you liberals immediately filed when the citizen question was proposed and have the question be on this census! If you think this is going away however you're incredibly naïve. The American people support it overwhelmingly!

LOL, trump's claim that this is his idea is lie number 11,976. The way it will be done, is the same way it has been done in the past.

You didn't listen to his remarks, and why did his pony congratulate him in finding a way to get what he wanted?

Naw, here's what's going to happen.

After Trump is driven from office, we are going to feel so bad about his concentration camps that we will finally give a path to citizenship to the millions of undocumented Americans...

Republicans will deny they ever supported Trump like they all deny they ever supported Nixon.
